Eshaver Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Nicholas, how many projects you have working currently ? By my count , at least 10 ! Whew............... Uh yes the farm , well shucks man , hit a couple of Doll house building stores . Tell them you're doing quarter scale , they translate that to 1-24th. Did you see the article in diorama about doing buildings from Foam Core called Walls The Easy Way ? I wish you were near Mount Vernon Va, I helped do a large model of Washingtons plantation about ten twelve years ago with a friend . Uh ya haven't given me much to comment on . Go to Michiaels and check out the animals that they have near the models , Some of them are in 1-24th scale . I used a few in the Pure station thats probably on page 4 in Dioramas . Ed Shaver

Scott H. Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 I would also add that the house and barn need some separation to them, as in the house on one side of the board and the barn on the other. There is a reason for this. In real life the more space between the house and barn lessens the chance of the "natural fertilizer" smell from reaching the house. Trust me, barns with livestock in them can get pretty ripe on a warm day! -Scott H.

RodneyBad Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Ok Scott will do. Tell me about it I work most of the summer on my uncle's farm. But the smell of the country lets ya know your finally out of the city.. I've seen some nice neighborhoods built right close to sewage plants. What where they thinking????? Okay, enough of side topic. Sound like a big lot tho. got the room for it? Or build it in 2 pieces so it's easier and lighter to transport.. Train hobby shops will have some good stuff too in G-Scale.(equals 1/22-1/24) I think you lay out is okay if ya turn the barn into a shop. You got enough projects for it. I was working on a paint shop project of sorts since most of my projects are in the primer stages. still. LOL...

The brb into a shop was my main idea it's gonna be a garage, workshop, storage, barn, lean to type thing. What's a car farm?
B_rad88 Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 What's a car farm? wait, you never heard of "BARN FIND CARS"? you know, rotting cars that was left behind! I.E.:
Eshaver Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Gee, I bet theres a whoe passle of James Dean Wanna bees out der that want that Porshe.......................... Ed Shaver
Foxer Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 I like your layout.. gives a nice yard/drive area to display your builds. I might shift the house away from the barn just slightly to open it a bit, or leave as is and take some off the left edge to make the whole thing a bit smaller for easier "mobility" as Zuk mentions.

I've deceided to move the house down 1 inch and over 1 inch.
Eshaver Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Nicholas , just to keep things in perspective - " G " scale and 1-24th scale run out to approximately 1/2 " = foot. Keeping that in mind every time will enable you to get a realistic " Stance " on the project. Look, there are two doll house stores here in Richmond Va . I can put you in touch with Lonnie Bell owner of Bells Exclusives here . He and his wife are very nice and easy to work with. In fact the store is across from a 1951 Crown Central gasoline station / well was a gas station . Google Crown Central to see what they had then . Ed Shaver
Sixties Sam Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 How about a rusty old pickup truck with flat tires peeking out from behind a half rotted door somewhere in the barn? Or make a separate garage for it. A weathered tractor might be nice if you can find a plastic model or diecast in 1/24 or 1/25. Food for thought. Sam

Sam Well I'km going to have some rusty farm equipment andtools, but I think a pickup is a good idea.

I live on an old farm, and as I sit here, there are no fewer than five old trucks and three old tractors scattered about the property. 1/25 scale tractor stuff is tough to find, but there are some diecast 1/25 promos of stuff like skid loaders that are available at most farm equipment dealerships. I've got a 1/25 Gehl skid loader in my collection that I picked up from the local tractor dealer.

Hey Chuck do you think you could get me some pictures of your farm and some of those old tractors and trucks, maybe the shed and barn if there's one.
