MyCarRocksSocks Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 I accidentally fudged up painting my model car. The paint came out bumpy. I want to start over, but not sure on how to get that paint off the plastic without messing it up. Any ideas?
envious8420 Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 a soak in some dot3 brake fluid should do it. depending on the paint, soak it for a few hours and try to scrape the paint off with your finger nail. if it comes off, grab an old toothbrush and go to town. if not soak for longer. repeated "applications" may be necessary
Gregg Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I would not use brake fluid anymore To hard to dispose of afterwards. the best in my opinion is 91% or higher rubbing alcohol Also, Castrol Super Clean works great, the purple jug ANd then there is the classic, Easy Off, the unscented yellow can, not lemon or others. Always use caution when spraying Easy Off, the fumes are toxic.

envious8420 Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 i keep forgetting about that, i have 2 baby wipe containers and when it gets funky i run the fluid through some cheese cloth into the second container. when its finally dead i take it to work and dump it in the tank for the oil burning furnace.

Eshaver Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 I never have any problems with Poly- S EZ Lift off . works on resin and all plastics , no problems either ! Ed Shaver
cruz Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 You can also go to WalMart and purchase some Dawn Power Dissolver, this thing works great. I believe is about 2 dollars a bottle. Just dump the body in the dissolver and start out fresh with your paintjob!!! This thing is so good that the paint just melted off the body, you can actually still see the shape of the car, it was a 1960 Starliner body that I messed up and started over!!!
Trans Am Erik Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 What's the best stuff to use to remove that new laquer paint without hurting the plastic?
Pete1980 Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 WOW!!! Marcos that looks nasty!! LOL It sounds like just about any degreaser will work I used Krud Kutter for my first atempt today and seams to work well.Im gonna try the Purple Degreaser next.Good luck.
Navy48 Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 I use EasyOff oven cleaner. it leaves the plastic with a very glossy finish and looks good as new. BUT as someone else said, it IS toxic, so it's best to use it in a well ventilated area and to be safe, wear a mask.

disabled modeler Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Hi Big Panda!.....i use super clean degreaser straight with out mixing or deluding, make sure you wear disposeable rubber exam type gloves....its hard on your hands. it takes almost any paint off for me. after cleaning i wash with soapy warm water to remove any residue that may be left.be careful around the wing window posts with the tooth brush.....mark
george 53 Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Marco's can you use that "Power Dissolver" WITHOUT gloves? Seemds like it works pretty good!
