Geezerman Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 While I was building the Twofer, I wanted to try scratching a cowl while I had one to compare to. Here's the start. I made cardstock patterns for the front and back, and transfered them to sheet styrene Spacing the two ends: Filled in all around with plastic pieces; Here it is roughed in: All filled in with a firewall of unknown vintage from the salvage yard, and waiting for something to use it with. Rockin Rodnet Rat sent me most of this engine a while back. I had to improvise some, and had it as an accessory in the back of the garage. And now, to Tintail A frame (model T ?), my cowl, an interior tub off of something from the scrapyard, and an old rear end from the same scrapyard. This tub will be the body for Tintail. I sectioned it widthwise about 1/2 inch. Stay tuned, I may have to pull off of this for a bit when the Rodent gasses out and I can clear it.
george 53 Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Yeesh Geeze, your just incredible! I'm just amazed at how you come up with this WAY off the wall stuff! To actually see how you figure it out,an then execute it is just amazing to me! You gotta be one of the most imaginative modelers I've ever seen. Your right up there with the Capt'n when it comes to building flights of fancy! And I mean that in the NICEST way!
CB Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Oh man Geez! How's I supposed to get any sleep after seein' this here scratchin' of yours and getting all inspired to do some? Love it-love it-love it!!! Great work! Love that engine as well ....I may have to pull off of this for a bit when the Rodent gasses out... I thought that Rodent was dead? I mean, you did use the skull from it--right?
Geezerman Posted September 17, 2009 Author Posted September 17, 2009 Thanks, All. A little bit of molding and the cab don't look too bad at all.
Jantrix Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Making something from nothing, it just doesn't get any better than that.
Geezerman Posted September 18, 2009 Author Posted September 18, 2009 Started on the front end a bit. Just realized I have nothin to hang a radiator on. Will have to jeerry rig something I'll be starting to wet sand the 1st clears on the Rodent today... it may not look too bad after all.
Geezerman Posted September 19, 2009 Author Posted September 19, 2009 Sometimes I wonder why I start these things and then stick my sorry butt out all over the internet with it ! This is one of those times. Here's where I am now. The idea was to use strips of soda can aluminum over the form. This is proving to be NOT SO EASY !!!!!
charlie8575 Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 Ah...but even if progress is long in coming, watching it come on projects like this make it all the more worthwhile. This is very interesting. Charlie Larkin
Geezerman Posted September 26, 2009 Author Posted September 26, 2009 The soda can material was not working out. I don't mind a little rough looking, it will go with the theme of the model. But this is just too cobbled looking. So, I have givin up on the soda can material. I covered the form with styrene and drilled out the over 150 rivit holes and installed Tichy Train rivits. Now, it looks too neat ! Been working on the suspension, and robbed a set of wheels off of an older build that can handle some newer wheels to go with it's Nisson engine . : Here's how I'm handling the radiator mount, but I've modified it since this foto. The front end was sitting too high and I had to change the mount. so those shock brackets are now on the top of the frame.
Dr. Cranky Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Oh, man, that is ultra unique. Love the boattail rear . . . very cool. Keep it going . . . and that engine is just perfect too!!!
Rider Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 The boat tail looks cool, I prefered the look of the black and rusty rivets, but that's just me. This will look very cool when your done with it.
Ragnar Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Now that is one wild boat tail, it looks just like someone choped it off a small fishing boat. Great Idea, and you are doing Great Work on it! CHEERS! Tom
Jantrix Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Wow. That is really something else. The boat tail looks fantastic. I'll be checking back often.
Dragline Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 This is NEXT LEVEL type modeling. I feel like an assembler when I look at this stuff. Very nice indeed. Bob F
george 53 Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Bob, we're ALL assemblers, it's just that SOME guys can assemble ALOT better that others! Geeze bein one of them!!! Geeze, REALLY like the way that rear came out. Did you form the panels from sheet plastic, or didja vacuform them?? Either way ya did it, it came out GREAT!!!
Guest JamesDE Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 This is really insane looking. I love it!!! Great scratchbuilding you have done to this.
charlie8575 Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 A double-taper boattail Model T. Very cool! Charlie Larkin
Geezerman Posted September 27, 2009 Author Posted September 27, 2009 (edited) Thanks again, everyone George, I glued strips and pieces of styrene over the Form, gave it a coat of Bondo and sanded it out. The panel lines are scribed. And yes, it does look TOO neat. I will be addressing that Edited September 27, 2009 by Geezerman
Geezerman Posted September 30, 2009 Author Posted September 30, 2009 (edited) I've started assembly. I have the front and back axles, engine and body on the frame, and doing a bunch of the small details. Tintail was referred to as another of my "rat" builds on the other forum I frequent. I want to point out that it is not intended to be a 'rat rod' as such, but rather a companion piece for my other two four banger early era, pre-war, hot rods, and to to replace the post war 32. I had to steal the wheels off of another model to get some early enough wheels. Wish I had had some wires but what I have will do.. I'll call them the "Four banger Trinity" and then the 32 will be in a seperate genre as just a very early 'modern' hot rod. Edited September 30, 2009 by Geezerman
Geezerman Posted October 3, 2009 Author Posted October 3, 2009 Gettin close. Just finished up detailing the engine room. Have a few more areas to finish up.
Geezerman Posted October 7, 2009 Author Posted October 7, 2009 Got 'er done. Sun was out yesterday morning, I hauled the garage out and took some fotos. Then I packed the model up for the trip to the Tampa show this weekend. I will run the rest thru the editor for downsizing and have them in the under glass section soon. Thanks for looking.
