philo426 Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I was going through my parts stash and I found a funky Corvette body that a previous owner had use as a paint mule. After looking at it I realized it is from the rather desirable Tom Daniel California Vette kit.I have it in the stripper bath now but I need some info. What chassis, engine wheels and interior tub are appropriate for this kit?I realize it is 1/24 scale so I wonder if I can modify a 1/25 Amt '70 Vette kits parts to fit.Plus do you know wherre I can find some good photos of it?Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

I have that kit in my stash. The AMT/MPC Corvette kit will not work with it. Monogram made 2 other kits from the original Tom Daniels "California Vette", one of them was the Monogram Corvette SS Hatchback, kit # 2212, can't remember what the other one was. http://www.showrods.com/showrod_pages/tdaniel_vette.html and as far as I know, no other kit will work will work with it. Dave, I WISH they would re-release it!
philo426 Posted September 29, 2009 Author Posted September 29, 2009 Bummer! I guess I could force it to work but I will have to widen and lenghten the parts to fit properly! Is there any way to determine if the Revell Penseke Corvette will work with the body?
Joe Handley Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 That would be a pretty sweet looking Vette once you got rid of all those louvers!
Howard Cohen Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 The Tom Daniel's California 'Vette is 1/24th scale. I am going to use the recent Miami Vice Daytona as a donor kit as it is also 1/24th scale. You can borrow parts from almost any 1/24th Corvette for some of the chassis and engine parts.
Len Woodruff Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 I did this car 3-4 years ago from a "glue bomb". It has HOK Orange Pearl
philo426 Posted September 30, 2009 Author Posted September 30, 2009 (edited) Just got it out of the stripper bath and cleaned her off with a nylon brush.I couldn't remove the glass or other parts because they are very firmly attached and I feared damage if I forceed it!Here it is! philo426 Posted September 30, 2009 Author Posted September 30, 2009 (edited) The hood was missing when I obtained the body .The hood from the Revell Baldwin Motion Vette fits very well but I have to add styrene in the rear.I guess I will have to find a way to make the hood louvers. philo426 Posted September 30, 2009 Author Posted September 30, 2009 On second thought perhaps the Baldwin Motion hood is not the best choice. The Amt hood doesn't fit as well but does have a more correct shape so I will probably use it with some modification.
philo426 Posted September 30, 2009 Author Posted September 30, 2009 (edited) I have no intention of removing the louvers! I just may mask them off!I purchased a Revell/Monogram 1/24 Penske Corvette Grand Sport today and will check the fit of the chassis later.Plus it has the sidepipes that are similar to the TD kit! philo426 Posted October 5, 2009 Author Posted October 5, 2009 I extended the hood to the cowl and made the hood louvers.I carved them from a block of .80 styrene using my Dremel and a set of needle files.
philo426 Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 The chassis went from white to Back In Black!
