hey everyone, wuz up? ok, i have 2 plymouth prowler kits, a AMT/ERTL prolwer w/ trailer, and a REVELL prowler w/ trailer. the AMT kit has a parts count of 130, and the REVELL kit has a parts count of 107! the AMT kit seems to be more detailed than the revell, but the revell has better looking rims(i think) and the AMT tyres are kinda on the thick side, but the revell tyres are smaller(skinnier)! i want to build the more accurate one OOB stock, and mod the other!

So my question is witch kit is more accurate to the real 1/1 prowler?

here are the kits in question:

the revell plymouth prowler w/ trailer kit

the amt/ertl plymouth prowler w/ trailer kit

ok, here are the bodies, the GREY one is the AMT/ERTL prowler body. the PURPLE one is the REVELL prowler body!

can some one please help me on this? i greatly appreciate all the help!

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!!!!

i say you build them both OOB and then do an expanded review in the new kit section

Brandon, I have both kits. If it were me, I'd build the AMT kit BUT use the wheels and tires out of the Revell kit as they are dead on accurate for the 1:1. AMT's kit I feel is better detailed for what you get.

AMT's wheels and tires (as usual) are a bit under scale for what they're trying to represent.

This is one man's opinion and others may feel differently. Your mileage may vary.

The Revell tires' profile are correct for the 1:1. It's the AMT's which are not correct looking at actual photos (such as the Revell box art) of the car.

To my eye, the AMT has the better body. I actually saw a Prowler downtown a few days ago, and to me, I think the AMT captures the overall form and proportion better.

I agree with Bill...use the Revell wheels if you can get them to fit the AMT mounts (this can be an issue sometimes.)

I also like the suggestion for a side-by-side (nobody ever did one that I remember,) and perhaps two alternate builds. To that end, Brian is absolutely spot-on.

I have to agree with Bill on this one, I also have both kits on the shelf and the AMT body looks very accurate to me but the Revell wheels and tires are much more to scale.

To me, the AMT tires are way too wide. We have a Prowler at our office, I see it every day. I could probably get you all of the detail photos you could want.....just let me know. It is kind of a shame, an attorney who has an office in our building has it as a toy. He parks it out in back of the building...it sat out there all last winter with a coat of snow on it most of the year....clearly, it is not his "baby"...he kind of likes his BMW M 6 series convertible in triple black more.....can't figure that one out....right!

If my memory serves me correctly, AMT came out with a Snap Tite and full detail model the first year the Prowler was made by Chrysler/Plymouth. I was always intrigued by the Prowler, so my son and I built the Snap Tite version and he displayed it on his memoribilia shelf with all of his basketball stuff until he went to college. It was a prepainted but very nice model and went together, but it was a curside with no motor.

I was intending to buy the full detail model, and read the Scale Auto (sorry guys) review of it and it said it was AMT;s best kit made up to that date. Seeing as how they use volunteer builders to review models, that just not melt the ice, and considering Revell's strongly earned reputation for making good models, either one is probably just as you described, as so far I haven't seen any 1/24-1/25 model right on the money. You can't go wrong with either of them.

Happy building. Relieve yourself of the concern and just go for it!!!!

If it were me, since you have 2 kits already with the desire for one to be factory stock and one custom, I would get as many reference photos as possible (gotta love the net) and start kit bashing / modifiying whichever parts are closest from each. Since they are 2 kits of the same car, and you are already planning on customizing one of them, there would be little to no risk of not having sufficient parts remaining to complete the second (custom) build. If this is the route you choose, best bet is to do the sock one first to help alleviate the risk of loosing / using a part needed for the custom, because by a customs very nature it is modified.

Just my thoughts, take em for what they're worth.

ok, thank you for the idea! i will do some research, i guess i should have done that in the begining! lol.

thank you!

cool, ok, and what a shame, i guess that guy rather drive an ugly bimmer than a slugish prolwer! lol

and thank you for the help, i will do some research on the net, and if i have any "grey areas" on details i will ask you. ok? thank you!

I built the snapper years ago........the snap kit BTW, is based on the concept as it has those "slit" headlights. The Revell and the AMT kit are based on the production vehicle as they have the production correct headlights.

As always, especially with the AMT kit, I would test fit and test fit again as there are a LOT of parts and for sure some fiddly details to go with it.
