I know there are a couple of options for Max's black V8 Intercepter in plastic and resin, but does anyone make a kit or resin that could be used for the yellow, red and blue MFP Pursuit cars or Interceptor from the first movie?

Weird I could have sworn I replied to this yesterday. :D

I also thought I saw someone post one of the yellow pursuit cars as well but I haven't had any luck finding it.

I thought there was a resin caster specializing in Australian muscle cars but again I haven't found a peep in searches.

Thanks

I have a very nice resin kit of the yellow "Pursuit Special" that Max drove in the begining of the movie. I bou

ght it out of Australia a few years ago and i'm pretty sure it's out of production.

I can't get the hang of posting pictures on here but I can email pics if anyone would like to see them.

I'm a huge Mad Max fan(read: 'nerd'), so I had to chime in here. The 'Black on Black' car gets all the glory, but Max's yellow car was no slouch for sure:

Federation Models(www.federationmodels.com) carries the resin XB 4-door kit by Planet X, but it's kinda spendy.......are you sitting down?....$120.

That's the Pursuit Special kit that I have. (I think it's the only one ever made?)

I upgraded my kit though and added Otaki chrome spoke wheels with BF Goodrich rubber tires.

Otaki used to offer these sets years ago. There was a resin kit of the Interceptor (black on black car) That included the same Otaki wheel set as well. I have all these kits and had intended on building them but ever since the Aoshima kit came out, I built it instead. There was a seller that had made a beautiful, resin conversion kit for the Aoshima Interceptor to make it look like it did when Max first drove it out of the police garage, without all the damage, no extra fuel tanks, ect.

Theres also a resin kit of the (Holden?) panel wagon that Max, his wife and son were in going on vacation.

If the quality is there $120 isn't too bad. I would be happier of it was $60, but considering the fairly obscure subject it isn't surprising. Is Max's yellow intercepter the same kind of car as the Pursuit cars? They look very similar except for the hood scoops on the interceptor and only 2 headlights on the Pursuit car.

Yeah, $300 for two of those Planet model kits and an Aoshima V-8 interceptor but thats what Christmas & birthdays are for right? B)

very cool Dave! for $120, how is the quality? i love the police cars in the movie they were a big influence on me as a kid and still ot this day. kind of funny watching "Max" neutral drop his car in the scene where he confronts the Night Rider and runs him down.

Dave

The beginning of Mad Max, The Road Warrior and Star Wars are 3 of the most memorable movie beginings for me, just sort of do de da for a few minutes of credits then wham they smack you in the head with a frying pan. B)

When I was a teenager I got Mad Max and The Road Warrior on VHS, we figured out how to run the VCR through the stereo and shook the windows of the house with the car chase scenes.

Aaron - All three of the XB sedans were based on the same basic model, but Max's car was a little more dressed up(chrome wheels, rear spoiler, different bonnet, etc).

Here's a neat little bit of trivia: when Sarse and Scuttle(car's call sign was 'March Hare') are chasing The Night Rider, the right exhaust pipe was spewing smoke....bad head gasket on that side? Nope. It was a six-cylinder car with a dummy pipe on the left side. B)

I'm pretty sure the quality of the Planet X kit is far from great, but the subject matter helps make up for it. If it was half as much, I'd love one.

I forget which one but i'm pretty sure at least one of the yellow cars was a Holden, possibly a Holden Manaro. I might be thinking of "The Night Riders" black car though?

The kit is decent, nowhere near the quality of something offered by the modelhaus or anything like that but the finished car will look nice with a little work.

Castings are a little on the thick side and the hard resin wheels and tires can easilly be replaced with better looking aftermarket plastic/rubber versions.

Rating the kit from 1-10 with ten being a high resin kit of today, I would say it's about a 5, maybe a 6.

But again, it is the only kit of it's kind (that i'm aware of) so the only other choice would be to scratch build it.

The 'pursuit special on methane' that The Night Rider stole was a Holden Monaro; the three MFP cars were all Ford Falcon XB sedans, and the 'Black on Black' was a Falcon XB coupe.

I'm so glad somone has mentioned this topic.i have the "black on black" intecptor and the planet X ford falcon MFP police car kit.....the very first one that came out.the thick body one;-/

But with a bit of work and updating some parts it's gona be a cracking model.

I think the one I have isn't max yellow falcon as i don't have the scoop on the bonnet,or the extra set of headlights.

So to update it,wheels, tires, hood scoop ect.what and where could i get the parts from?

Thanks,

Rich

PS I'll post some pics up of my kit when i get chance.

Speaking of this, I just got outbid on the Aoshima conversion kit that changes the Mad Max II (Road Warrior) kit into the original Interceptor. Is eBay the only source left for finding these resin kits?

ive been kickin the 4 door car idea around for years. the comet kits arent bad, but for that price they should be perfect. maybe someday, after u get the next 30 or so projects done.

Not true, Max's yellow intercepter was a XB Falcon, as was the one that hit's the sign post and t Bones the bongo van, the crappy 6 cylinder one that goes through the phone box and rolls is an earlier XA Falcon sedan. The "last of the intercepters" black coupe is an XB.

Night rider stole a HQ Holden Monaro and Max's personal car was a Holden panel van.

Hope this helps.

The PartsBox of Australia now also offers the complete resin kit of the yellow interceptor...

http://www.thepartsbox.com/

For some reason, I can't link the exact page with the kit... On the home page, click "resin kits and bodies", then the "XB" option... The yellow interceptor is the first car on the list (it's called "Aussie Police Pack")... Mad Max decals are also available separately, under "decals"... I have the aforementioned PlanetX issue of the kit. It does leave a lot to be desired, especially considering the price, but an experienced modeller can definitely make a nice scale replica out of it. I believe the PartsBox issue is based on the PlanetX car, but improved... At least in terms of wheels and tires, which are now separate pieces, unlike before when they were cast as one resin piece
