Lownslow Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 i wouldnt mind a off topic as long as the politics dont get out of hand as for those saying no well thats you opinion however if it does get created do add a disclaimer
Harry P. Posted October 11, 2009 Author Posted October 11, 2009 Wait a minute, I think I'm confused now. I thought this was for having an "off topic" category which could be anything we wanted. Is this now for a political/religious topic? Well, "Off topic" technically includes anything off topic.... religion, politics, jokes, favorite songs, crazy end-of-the-world theories....whatever. But I think what we're really talking about here is politics/religion, right? I don't think anyone is really offended by a "jokes" thread or something like that. I don't see any harm in "What's your favorite movie" type posts... It's the religion and the politics that seems to stir up the real trouble and offend people, so that's what we're voting on.
roadhawg Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 I'm also with Zoom Zoom......I say no. This is one of the places I come to relax and get away from everyday BS. I'd prefer it stay that way.
Randy Kern Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 NO. Dave, Bob, Lyle and Andy summed it up perfectly. I guess there are some people whose whole lives are consumed with computers and the internet, so post on the thousands of other forums for the off topic subjects.
Aaronw Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 (edited) I'm voting yes but with a restriction on "hot" topics. There is a place for even mild political / religious topics but not for heated debate. The topics about GM & Chrysler do have some place on a board about model cars, even maybe government control is a good / bad thing as it is related to what we may have to model in the future. Topics degenerating into the socioeconomic value of post marxist socialism and its relationship to the Mayan calendar probably do not. If it is likely to cause bad feelings between board members it most certainly should not be there. A place for relatively harmless topics like recent movies, show me your pets, kids etc are harmless and can bring a closer feeling of community to a board even if it has nothing to do with model cars. While we are talking about adjustments how about an other than car models under glass section. Many of us build other stuff and it would be nice to see what people are building even if they are not cars. Edited October 11, 2009 by Aaronw
Jon Cole Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 It don't matter to me. All I would suggest, is that if a new page is added, then PLEASE eliminate another one. Stuff is so spread out all over the place (nothing wrong with that in theory) but there seems to be one or more sections that could be folded into a "General Topics" catagory, due to lack of posts and overall activity. Just my 2¢, minus inflation, of course.
MikeMc Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 No, no, no a thousand times NO! Here's something that seems to have been conveniently overlooked in this discussion ... We tried this once already and it didn't freakin' work! Does no one remember how political and/or religious discussions used to be allowed in the "Rants and Raves" section, and how they got so nasty and stirred up so much ill will that Gregg stepped in and pulled the plug on them ? Why do you think the heading of the "Rants and Raves" section contains this admonishment ... This is not a political forum, it is about our hobby. Let's keep it that way. That seems quite clear to me, and it makes me wonder why we're having to go 'round this particular mulberry bush again. And, Lyle, I agree 100 percent with you, the O/T garbage has been the No.1 factor in turning a certain "other" board into a cyber-ghetto. Back when Gregg made the earlier decision to put an end to the political discussions, there were a few, naturally, who got upset. However, there was a post by Larry Greenberg that best summed up my feelings (and I'm quoting from memory here, so Larry, please forgive me if I don't get it exactly right): "There are any number of places on the Internet where one can go to have a political pissing match. There are precious few places where one can go to have a discussion about model cars. Gregg made the right call" 'Nuff said, my friends. 'Nuff said. Thank You!!!!!!!
von Zipper Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 It seems there already is a modeling site for religious modelers, and countless sites for political opinions.I've even seen a thread started on another model car site about trading recipes???? Maybe a more usefull topic to start would be a PROPER ETIQUETTE course for new members-Then we can be brought up to speed on the proper way to behave on modeling forums, you know like when is it OK to post your stuff after a self appointed MASTER BUILDER has posted his or WHO's opinion really matters and WHO's doesn't.Perhaps Who has been here longer or has more "friends" then the other guy. Sounds like religion and politics to me already ............ Cecil
Harry P. Posted October 12, 2009 Author Posted October 12, 2009 ...or WHO's opinion really matters and WHO's doesn't. Cecil Everybody's opinion matters here. We're all equal.
Harry P. Posted October 12, 2009 Author Posted October 12, 2009 ok... the people have spoken. No more off-topic posts.
