Ever since the 599 GTB kits came out from Revell & Fujimi, many fans have been disappointed that neither company modeled the optional 20" BBS Challenge wheels; especially cruel since the standard "pentagram" wheels are not deemed very attractive by anyone.

Scale Production has stepped up and answered our request...through 3D design & rapid prototyping they'll be making the Challenge style wheels that will fit the modern Ferrari kits B)

They sent me the photo today, and I'm very pleased to see them. Looks great, and he's going to adjust the offset for the rear wheels to match the slightly different front to rear offset seen on the 1:1 cars.

I don't know the price...probably will be priced similarly to other Scale Production wheel/tire sets...those all have metal rims/resin centers, so perhaps these will be cheaper than the $30 price of the metal/resin versions that Strada Sports sells.

Looking at the prices of the other sets they sell it could range from $15-$30. Not too bad in my opinion. These wheels will add a lot more dimension to the car.

Depending on cost will certainly tell them whether or not these are a home run.

Like everyone else, I see these on more than the 599. The 612 will look perfect and give you an idea of more options for that car.

As simple looking as they are I am able to visualize many other cars these will work great on. A pretty key factor for me in purchasing wheels.

Keep us updated Bob!

What are they made of?

Standard resin; you can see the rapid prototype master in the lower right corner of the photo; generally that master gets cleaned up and new masters are cast in resin from which final molds are made.

wow nice wheels!

looks like rp is about to make one off parts and some rare kits/parts in resin much easier to get.

are these drawn (autocad etc...) then printed to/by the rp machine to make the masters?

I'm not sure what software he used, there are a number of programs that people can use to design. I found out this AM that the wheel master was printed out in wax, a process that took 7 hours for the RP machine to build up. He says the quality of the part is superior to what he's had printed in other RP methods. Won't be long before we'll be able to do the printing right on our workbenches.

Any tire recommendations?

The wheels will be 100% resin, and they will likely be sold as a package with a set of soft black resin tires.
