meaneyme Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 I was talking to a fellow modeler, don't remember now, and he told me about a new magazine that just came out, I don't think is in the newstands but it's dedicated to old and traditional cars, something with the title of Kustmom or Hot Rod Models? Does anyone here know? I would love to purchase one, just don't know how to go about it.

Here's a link to purchase: http://magcloud.com/browse/issue/37517 Thanks a lot Mr. Bradley but I have another question? How are they going to sell this magazine if you can already see what it contains? Of course, I'm putting an order in to purchase it, looks very good. I see some of the guys in the forum in here also!
Bernard Kron Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 (edited) ...How are they going to sell this magazine if you can already see what it contains?... Well... the text and images on the Preview are pretty small... I think I'll wait 'til my copy gets here to try and read it! Edited October 16, 2009 by gbk1
cotto Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Very nice Mag, I will have to look into this, looks like they have a feature on Lyle Willits. This is their second issue but it looks like one can also get the first one?

They also have a feature on Marcos Cruz, too bad I can't seem to read the articles too well, I guess I will also have to wait for the magazine to arrive. Mr. Willits seems to have a lot of models in his house!
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 It"s put out by Don Graham. I've talked to him by email and he's a great guy. My old country gas station is supposed to be in the next issue. He features a lot of the guys we all know. So there is the possibility one of you could see some of your works in it.
cruz Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Yes guys, I already have my copy, very cool magazine specially if you are into customs and traditional stuff. Don is a great guy, I only wish that more people would join in to help his magazine take off, I know for a fact that it will be better as time goes by. To Don, even though I have thanked him already, at least through this forum, thanks again for featuring my models!!! Lyle is not on the cover but he got something better, a 2 page spread on his models!!!
Lyle Willits Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 I have both issues of the magazine and it is great. There are NO advertisements and every page is in color. I'm very appreciative to be in the magazine (NOT on the cover) along with so many other builders, like Cruz. The first issue had a Bill Stillwagon car on the cover. One of the other neat things about it is, there are featured models from all over the world -not just the good 'ol USA. Unless you absolutely HATE hot rod or custom models, YOU NEED TO BUY THIS MAG. On another topic - I've noticed since turning 60 almost a year ago, people now tend to call me Mr. Willits. Guess that's better than foegy, geezer, crumpy old fart, crumudgeon, etc.
woodandbike Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Lyle's on another cover eh? LOL ,, Maybe they'll have one of mine will be on the cover next. LOL There is nothing like holding the real magazine in your hand. Kustom and Hot Rod Models is a very nice addition to the other model car magazines that are out there.I suggest for all to pick up an issue. The 32 on the cover is my build.

On another topic - I've noticed since turning 60 almost a year ago, people now tend to call me Mr. Willits. Guess that's better than foegy, geezer, crumpy old fart, crumudgeon, etc. Sir, excuse me Sir.... I am 35 and everywhere I go it's "Sir"....I NEED to dye my hair lol It's a very nice magazine! I also have been lucky to get a model in there in the first issue. The magazine covers anything old school and anything that is just too cool. I don't know how many remember.....but a few years back, there was a "new magazine" on a web site everyone was going nuts over.....many bought into it and NOBODY got anything.. that was pretty sad. The magazine was born out of obvious interest in the traditional hot rod and kustom models. Until TRaK was built, it was almost impossible to tell "old school" was still so strong. Ya see them on board and at shows here and there....but when ya get them all on one board it's a shock! I had nothing to do with starting the magazine, but I like to think that it would not have happened without the masses on my forum Traditional Rod and Kustom in scale. Don started out on his own, doing all of it himself and does it for his own enjoyment. You will see things like how to's, featured builders, show coverage (on old school only models) and more. It's nice to have a new rag just for us Traditional lovers. Thanks VonDon!
george 53 Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 TEN BUCKS AN ISSUE?????? Man you BETTER LOVE ol hot rods an customs for THAT price!!!! No thanks, I'll stick with what I know and LOVE! I'll wait till he DOES get some advertisers to help bring it down to a more realistic price!
cruz Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 TEN BUCKS AN ISSUE?????? Man you BETTER LOVE ol hot rods an customs for THAT price!!!! No thanks, I'll stick with what I know and LOVE! I'll wait till he DOES get some advertisers to help bring it down to a more realistic price! Yes George, seems lika a steep price and it is, but to me, when you consider the effort that is put into something like this to keep our beloved hobby alive, at the end it's really a small price to pay!!
woodandbike Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 When you can get a magazine that is devoted solely to your style of build and has a common man feel about it,I think 10 bucks is more than a fair price to pay.
Lyle Willits Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 30% of most of the magazines you buy for $7.00 are ADVERTISEMENTS. For $10.00 you get NO ads, no blank white spaces and full color on EVERY page. Not every magazine appeals to everyone. For example, if one only builds NASCAR models, then this magazine probably would mean nothing to that person. This is a specialty magazine that is put together by ONE man who does it because he loves it. It is produced by an on-line self publishing company. Bottom line is -if you like it, buy it. If you don't, then don't buy it. And, for the second time, I don't have a car on the cover. I do have a nice article on the inside, along with Moparlady, Cruz and several other modelers.
Len Geisler Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 TEN BUCKS AN ISSUE?????? Man you BETTER LOVE ol hot rods an customs for THAT price!!!! No thanks, I'll stick with what I know and LOVE! I'll wait till he DOES get some advertisers to help bring it down to a more realistic price! George, If you ask me your missing out on something great here......I think it is $10 well spent.....Plus a MR. WILLITS and some others have said, you pay that $10 for a magazine, not adds, no junk, just models.... Just my 2 cents ......
george 53 Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Guys, NOTHING personal meant to the gentleman who puts his heart into his baby, BUT it IS a niche magazine. For those who are into it's subject matter, I DO BELEIVE it IS a Godsend. I LOVE Muscle Cars and I get my satisfaction from the 2 mags I subscribe to, But for the guys who DO get into rod an customs I'm SURE this magazine is WORTH MORE to them than me. I LIKE rods an customs mind you, but to the guys who LOVE them, THIS mag is probly the Kat's Pajamas!!! I won't be jumpin on the wagon just yet, BUT I can understand WHY you guys are excited, It's EXACTLY how I felt ALLLL those years ago when I discovered SAE in the book store! FINALLY I thought a MODEL CAR magazine FOR ME!!!! I REALLY DO understand the excitement! Sorry if I came off rather UNinterested, But as you all know, as I have said before, I LOVE MUSCLE CARS! They're what I grew up with an what I know BEST about. I LOVE a nice Hot Rod, That's why I LIKE ALL of Lyle's builds, HE'S got THAT line DOWN! When I actually get to see one, I may change my mind, but money IS tight, an I do gotta be picky on what I spend it on. That's one reason I subscribe, it's ALOT less that individual issues, and if the gentleman who does publish it gets enough subscribers, hopefully, the price'll come down a bit, and then I can take one out for a test spin. I AM HAPPY for you guys, as I KNOW THE FEELING of findin a treasure like that! Been with Both my mags for LOOOOOONG time and even though I got my favorite,I DO love/enjoy them both! Congratulations on finally gettin a mag that's EXCLUSIVELY for you guys!
krow Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Neat idea, great looking, but it does make ModelCars Magazine look like the great bargain it is. If I had the bucks I would jump in, I may yet, but like I said, ModelCars is a heck of a bargain by comparison.
RodBurNeR Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 I would only like to add that Kustom & Hot Rod models is not comparable nor is it even competition to either Model Cars or Scale Auto....it's a new entity that has not been done. I love MCM and also love the new KARH magazine. Neither one detours me from the other. Remember there have been other magazines over the years, a lot of them didn't survive as "general interest" publications. KAHR is not general, so it's only going to appeal to those who like old school hot rods, kustoms, drag cars and other of the like. Remember there is an era of modeling being savored here. Don's goal was to make the magazine for the guys who love this stuff, so it won't appeal to you if you like muscle cars , nascar or sports cars... If you are an Ed Roth , George Barris, Sam Barris, Gene Winfield, Bo Huff, John D'Agostino, Larry Watson or Bill Hines fan.....then you will probably love it. You won't see too many crazy show rods, but some of the early show cars are definately there.

Its not working so well for the 1:1 mags of this kind. Seems as they are starting to lean to a variety type or " life style " mag then a car one. But just my 2 cents
jbwelda Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 hey thanks for the lead, i just ordered a copy of both issues. i think its a great thing to support and they combined shipping on the two issues, so i think the price is fair.
