Ron Hamilton Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 My good friend Howard Weinstrein made me an offer I couldn't refuse. A restorable 1960 Edsel Convertible. The car was unpainted, and other than the glue marks from the old AMT "Customizing Accessories", it was in great shape, and ready to be worked on. Howard provided me with some fresh chrome (Thanks Howard!!) and some information about the one-to-one, which should help me on this build. I found some shots of an absolutely georgeous Red one for sale on Ebay. The start of this one is a little ways away, as I have several projects in front of it.
RodBurNeR Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 ok cool, just what I like to see! I have been wanting a '60 for a long time, just love them tunnels on the trunk lid, neat car really! I will be watching.
RodneyBad Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 So not all Edsels were Ugly? That a good looking one ya got there Steve. Looks like ya got some body work to do. Those are some heavy glue spots. I'll be watching.
Monty Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Having seen your work on dozens of other models, I can't wait to see how this one turns out. If you have the time, would you mind doing a follow-along pictorial?
James Flowers Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 I love seeing these old models you rebuild. You always do a great job on them.
Sixties Sam Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Now there's a rare car, in real or model form! I'm eager to see how it comes out. It looks like you have a bunch of cleanup to do with all those glue blobs! Have fun!
Foxer Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Not bad looking at all. I'm still hammering the glue off an old Valiant. These old bombs are a blast to recycle.
John Goschke Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Looks like some good raw material there, Ron! At least they didn't thoroughly weld the skirts on like so many of these we see. Fixing those spots where the antennas were glued on top of the rear fenders, in that little trough between the "taillight fairings," oughta be an adventure! Here's the hardtop I did about a bazillion years ago (from a fresh kit, purchased for the princely sum of $20!). Pretty much box stock 'cept for the '61 vintage AMT tires and a little "attitude adjustment" to give it a hi-po Galaxie stance. Between this thing and Steve's beautiful ragtop, looks like we've got yellow covered! Maybe your's oughta be red!

I am planning on Red, with a Red and Silver Interior, and White up-top, just like in the Edsel Brochure. (Thanks Howard!) Ron
Jairus Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Well... not a 60, but this is my recycled Edsel, a '59, that I stripped and rebuilt just like you are Ron. Might be an inspiration....
