FujimiLover Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Hello there. I have a friend in the UK who is looking for a clear gloss coat for Tamiya paints. He can not seem to locate any in his area, and paints he's tried seem to eat his finish. We have Tamiya clear coat here, but it's against the law to ship arosol can's. He says he's tried airbrushing the liquid form, but it takes a month for it to harden. Any suggestions? Need a clear gloss paint that's safe with Tamiya colors. He does not care what brand it is, but just want's something in spray form.
Harold Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 I'm not sure of the availibility of similar products across the pond, but I've had great results with Dupli-Color clear on several Tamiya finishes. My yellow Pennzoil Nismo, metallic grey '41 Lincoln and one of my '97 F- 150's (metalic black and light sand) all were painted with Tamiya colors and coated with the Dupli-Color with no ill effects. Hope this helps somewhat. Good luck.
B_rad88 Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 (edited) hey marc, well i am not sure if they would have this over there, and i am not sure on who this would react to tamiya paints, i have sprayed this on automotive paints and it worked perfect for me! its called Krylon triple-thick cyrstal clear glaze, and i like the finish i got from it, and this is one of the rare few products that i like! LOL if you check the "rants and raves" section there is a thread that i posted some of the cars i sprayed with this krylon clear glaze, and they where never polished! well here is the link anyways, lol: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.p...mp;#entry223692 Edited October 28, 2009 by KUZTOMMODELS88
FujimiLover Posted October 28, 2009 Author Posted October 28, 2009 Yes Brandon, we know your in love with Krylon, thank you! I will suggest those to him next time I chat with him. I've noticed when visiting England, that they don't have the same hobby shop's we do. They don't really specialize in model kit building like we do. Their hobby shops greatly support the RC model airplane hobbyist and die-cast collectors. That's about it. I will pass on the info!
Brendan Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Have him order Tamiya's Clear TS-13 through Tamiya or a place like Hobby Link Japan. If it's shipped by UPS, FEDEX, or DHL, you won't have any problem. I get spray cans all the time from overseas through a package delivery service. The only thing that might happen is they may inspect the package, which would it delay delivery by about a week. I have also shipped aerosol cans to England with no problem.

Japan's regulations have pretty much killed any chance of ordering spray cans and shipping them into or out of that country. HLJ doesn't carry spray paints anymore, except for their few Japanese customers. That was clearly mentioned in the recent video of their new facility. One can lie about what's in a package and hope it gets to it's intended destination. Tamiya sprays were pulled from the UK for labeling issues. They will eventually be available again. Tamiya X22 acrylic clear will work, but as mentioned it's very slow to dry. A food dehydrator is an excellent way to speed up the drying. The following product has been tested by someone on the forums (ddms) and he claims it's just like Tamiya TS-13, much cheaper in a much larger can. U-Pol paint is manufactured in England. UPOL Jamming Clear The clear is in the Power Can range. I suggest the friend in the UK either contact U-Pol in the UK to find where he can get the Power Can clear for his models. U-Pol Website (UK) Or try this source: UK Website selling Power Can Clear
FujimiLover Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 My friend would also like to know what's the best way to strip acrylic paint?

FujimiLover Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 Thank you, I've passed on the information. He still can't get half the clear's that were recommended.
