roadhawg Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 What did you expect, a CAR? Seriously, a couple of weeks ago, someone...FujimiLover, I believe......posted some pics of a Sopwith Camel he was building. Pretty cool. I KNOW this is "Model Cars" Magazine, but lots of us here build things other than cars. Personally, I like civilian helicopters and racing aircraft. We have categories here for drag racing, large scale, even dioramas......would it be that difficult to add a category for "Other models"? Just a thought.
Guest Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 What's this? Another off topic thread??? Oh no, what are we going to do??? Call the police!! Seriosly, awesome work Tommy, and I agree, we need a place to show our other builds as well.
george 53 Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Tommy, I have a 24th scale Mustang that I wanted to build as a Reno Racer. As a matter of fact, i have quite a few 24th scale aircraft, mostly all WWII , 'cept for 2 Harrier's. I also have 24th scale Huey's an a few Loach's too. We do not build airplanes here. Do We? No different than a mini bike George. You can not have one with out the other.
Greg Cullinan Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 That's sharp. Uh oh! I'm feeling a impulse buy coming on!
george 53 Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Actually James, it appears YOU are posting in an OFF topic post also, with NO relavent comments other than to post. At least I did make a comment on what a nice build it was, Off topic or not. And as I have said MANY times before, I DON'T care WHAT guys post, if it interests me, I'll say something, REGARDLESS if it's off topic or not!

You are right George I should have said something about the Mustang. My bad. It is a very nice build. I really do like it. Sorry to Roadhawg for my comments to George in his post. Albert Moore Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Being that I enjoy both aircraft and automotive modeling, I'd be for a non-auto modeling section. The model aircraft site I call home has a section for other genres of modeling in our forum and it works quite well. My .02 cents, Albert
Aaronw Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Very nice, I like seeing what warbirds did after their service. It is really amazing what a varied life many had after being retired, quite a few WW2 bombers became executive transports, some became cargo haulers, many more became firefighters. Quite a few fighters became racers and some were used for aerial spraying. In turn many of these converted warbirds became the only examples of the plane and were restored to their military appearance and now reside in museums. As far as OT, it has racing, it has a car name 2 out of 3 isn't bad. You can add my vote to an "other" area, I also build more than shiny things with wheels.
Modellpularn Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 That's cool, I have the Airfix 24th scale Mustang also. Always wanted to do a hot rod plane. Someday, like with all the other umpteen projects......
Modelmartin Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 What did you expect, a CAR? Actually I did! I thought maybe it was an LSR Mustang or some such thing. Love the Raceplanes myself.
roadhawg Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 First, thanks for all the kind comments! George, that a 1/48 scale Hasegawa kit. I build race planes in 1/48 and 1/72 scale. Just something about those race planes I like....maybe its the cool colors. I didn't mean for this to be another off-topic discussion. I honestly think there's a place here for non-automotive subjects. I think we can learn new techniques by seeing models outside our usual realm. I learned drybrushing and washes from the airplane modelers in my club. There's a post on my club forum now about a paper archetechtural building that has to be seen to be believed. And the figure modelers can teach us a thing or two about those people for dioramas. like I said...it was just a though....or maybe a suggestion. Again, thanks for your comments. Coming from YOU guys, it means a lot!
LDO Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Tommy, I have a 24th scale Mustang that I wanted to build as a Reno Racer... Did you see the old Fine Scale article on turning that plane into "Roto-Finish"?
LUKE'57 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 (edited) Always been one of my favorite race planes. Great job on it but you better be careful cuttin' the pylons in front of me because the drop tanks are full of NoS and I left the fifties in mine. LOL 20th Century planes, the lazy modelers friend. Guest Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 Luke, is that 21st century Toys Corsair? I have that kit in the works. It's nat a bad kit for 12 bucks.
LUKE'57 Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Luke, is that 21st century Toys Corsair? I have that kit in the works. It's nat a bad kit for 12 bucks. Mine cost a bit more than that. It's a 21st Century but it's not the 1/32 kit, it's the 1/18 prebuilt one. My son bought it for me several years ago and it's like a Tribble. I started out with just that one and now I've got it, an FW 190, Spitfire, Mig 15, F-86 Sabre, a P-40 and two Mustangs cruising around in my den. Guess I should'a sprayed, huh? Sometimes it's more that I can do to keep peace in the family though. You wouldn't believe what a chore sweeping up all those shell casings is. LOL
