Daniel Peterson Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 Anybody else like this? I think I'm in love with the Mustang...again! I'm almost digging the taillights 100%...loving them in general, but still mulling how well they work on a "Mustang"...and is that a clamshell hood I see? The door operation still seems gimmicky to me on anything but the most exotic of rides. Is the smart money on standard outswing doors in production? Could they have picked a better color?! I don't think so! I love it! I hope Revell is already scheming to plan a kit. What's everybody else think?
Zoom Zoom Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 I dig it too. A lot 8) Obviously the doors are purely for show, I assume it's a clamshell hood and that it wouldn't make production, nor the windshield/roof glass. I think I could get used to the taillights, but the interior screamed "roadkill" to me instead of "Mustang hide" Very cool/unexpected design, who really knows how much of this will make it to the next iteration of the Mustang? Glad to see it looking a bit more forward than backward. I'd love to get it as a model, and it's relatively safe to assume someone in the industry must be looking at it very closely, as they do all popular American pony cars.
MrObsessive Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 Now that's GORGEOUS!! Hmmmm..........I think you'll see some of those styling cues turn up on the next restyle of the Mustang, said to be coming in '09 or so. I too don't think those doors will ever see the light of day............the safety Nazi's would have apoplexy! :x I would like to see the American manufacturers in general get more daring with windshield shapes.............maybe wrap the glass higher into the roofline ala the Opel Astra Panarama roofed car sold in Europe.
Darin Bastedo Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 I like it, but I would have done it a little different.
Jairus Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 Very nice car... but then the standard model is/was pretty nice too! Taillights are actually the best part of the "redesign" while the doors are the stupidest. (Makes sense in a crowded parking lot but the expense of engineering and gas struts just to keep them open says PLEASE NOOOOO) Headlights are cool! I wouldn't hold your breath on Revell making a kit of this design.
Steve D. Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 That 's the first thing that came to mind when I saw that profile.... pretty sweet. They probably will drop some of the "show" gimmicks but if they can stay with those profiles the definately have a winner . When I was in High School (1976) I used to bomb around in a 64 convertable ( everyone keeps callind them 64 1/2 but in all the years I've owned it I've never seen anything that said 64 1/2) it had the straight 6 but everyone in town thought it was a V8 . I can't tell you how many time I cheated death in that rig . My dad took it back when I joined the Coast Guard and restored it to better than new condition , the only thing he changed was the color from dark metallic green to baby blue his favorite color . If cars could talk I'd probably be in jail . see you around the clubhouse Steve D.
bob paeth Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 I also think that this design excerise is pretty cool. It only has one drawback as I see it. The "wrap-over" windshield looks good but I wonder if the glass manufacturers have developed a better product that when this idea first appeared on show cars back in the mid 50's. Most of General Motors cars shown in the road show known as The Autorama had wraparound/wrap over windshields and the distortion in the glass was horrendous. Bob
