Janne Herajärvi Posted November 28, 2009 Author Posted November 28, 2009 How about glossy paint? Because im gona use some decals on body so i must polish it. Yeah it would be easier to paint it straight with gloss black, but i wanted make some tests with floorwax, polishing pads and car wax Cheers...
Janne Herajärvi Posted December 10, 2009 Author Posted December 10, 2009 Polishing almost finished, only roof needs more job Cheers...
Harold Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Getting closer to final Must clean those whitewalls from dust Heck with the rest of the car- that chassis is worthy of display in its own right .
seeker589 Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Great builds! The wheel detail on the Merc is very eye catching. Keep it up!
beefheart22 Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 As for the Chrysler, white has got to be the biggest pain to work with. No matter what the delivery method is. White paint is so transparent and thin to begin with and it's pretty easy to get carried away. I find it takes an immaculately clean, smooth, even, flawless white primer job, free of any smudges or marks because everything will show through the white paint no matter how many patiently, well timed mist coats from far away are put on there. White paint runs like mad and seems to take longer to dry between coats. Hate white paint.
Blake Rogers Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Little mock up Cheers... i love ur work dude iam big in to hot roda and i must say great job on both of these cars were u get the merc???
Janne Herajärvi Posted December 11, 2009 Author Posted December 11, 2009 Tahnk you guys for all those kind words. beefheart: I dont like painting white eather But white looks very cool in `57 Chrysler so ill have to try it again moparfan: I buy most of my model kits from Finnish hobby shops or eBay, ill hope you find yours... If i understand your guestion right
jbwelda Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 wow those are nice! and i see the tamiya paint stands are universal!
Janne Herajärvi Posted December 26, 2009 Author Posted December 26, 2009 Mercury got some flames today. ill hope they sit little better after using sol for them. Hood was biggest problem. Cheers...
charlie8575 Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 I'm so glad you shined up the Mercury. The whole flat/semi-gloss paint thing is so overdone, and to the point where it's starting to become a caricature of itself in model and real cars. And to me, it was a caricature to begin with, except in a few cases where real unfinished projects were stumbled across or are in fact, active in progress towards being finished. Great job on that Mercury. Charlie Larkin
Janne Herajärvi Posted December 28, 2009 Author Posted December 28, 2009 (edited) Thank you Charlie! Ill hope that this Merc is finished soon, becouse i have some very interesting projects coming after i got something complete. I am pretty busy builder, there is about 10 projects in my workbench and more than 10 waiting in my shelf. Well maybe its not unusual in this hobby Edited December 28, 2009 by Janne Herajärvi
Janne Herajärvi Posted December 29, 2009 Author Posted December 29, 2009 All decals are in there now. What you guys think, should i do little black washes for panel lines where those flames are? Next step is last clear coat and painting body inside and then final assembly
Corvette.Jeff Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 I think i need to start sending my model car bodies to you so you can get them all shiny Very nice work, and yes, maybe a black wash on the panle lines would do the paint more justice?

I am not that good to make paintjobs Roof is horrible, because i almost spoiled it with too much trying polishing stuff, wax and clear. But i leave it, this never goes in any contests so its fine by me I perhaps do that black wash in there and finish this project soon. Then something else
weasel Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 janne... a little tip for the decals, i always use a solvent, as you said, but, on the compound angle stuff using solvent AND a hairdryer will take all/any 'wrinkles' out.. the heat just helps the solvent work easier...

Thank you. Ive heard that tip and planned to try it but first ill must buy that hairdryer It must buy before ill start some of my racecar projects. That hood was very difficult part for decals. Like they say practice, practice and more practice
