Terry Jessee Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I was cruising around the 'web last night and found this interview I did for Dirk Johnson's "Model Car Hub" website in 2000. It covers the process for putting together "Hot Rod Model Kits." It was kind of fun to see the stories again. Thought you might find it interesting. http://www.modelcarhub.com/feature-behindthescenes.htm Terry
Chuck Most Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Hey, Terry- Steve Magnante plugs this book in the latest issue of Hot Rod Deluxe- he mentions it doing an article comparing Monogram/Revell's Big T to the Lindberg Big Red Rod. I never even knew you'd done a hot rod model book until then!
disabled modeler Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Hi Terry, it would be nice to see reissues of the old school rods, the last few have seemed to been changed or newized of sort and just dont have the luster of the early kits of hot rods. the best reissue i can think of lately is the monogram big t , my brother got one and built it box stock....really nice kit.......mark

Chuck Most Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I love 'em all, Terry, but I must say the Jo-Han Coupe DeVille lowrider is a favorite! I've got one of those gathering dust on my shelf somewhere!
jbwelda Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 terry, is your (this) book out of print or can it still be found somewhere for somewhere near list price? i ask because i just checked amazon and they (someone, not amazon proper i guess) want 100 bucks for a copy. and used ones are 60$ approx. seems kinda steep to me but looks like a book i want. many thanks!
Scott Colmer Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Terry, Fun insights to the book. I have a copy that I still pull out and read from time to time. I't good stuff. I only which I had the extra cash when you were selling some of the build ups on e-bay. Scott

Watch eBay. The Amazon book sellers think it's some kind of diamond because it's out of print, and they're asking ridiculous prices for it. It has been out of print since 2002, I think. It's odd to me that the 1:1 hot rod guys are just "discovering" it, but then, MBI didn't do a lot to publicize it when it was new. I'd bet that the mention in Hot Rod Deluxe probably would have been a nice shot in the arm, but it is what it is. The eBay auctions usually are in the $20 range. Terry
Chuck Most Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 I'd bet that the mention in Hot Rod Deluxe probably would have been a nice shot in the arm, but it is what it is. It's ironic- now that the mass-market retailers have abandoned the model car market, and it's become an even more specialized and fragmented hobby than it was even ten years ago, quite a few 1:1 car mags are bringing back the model content! If the HRD article had been written eight years ago, those aloof 1:1 guys would've been quite familiar with your book by now! (Of course, HRD didn't exist eight years ago, but I guess I've made my point!) Hot Rod Deluxe almost always has at least a paragraph or two devoted to model cars, Rebel Rods covers them every so often, and every Amusin' Cruisin' issue so far has had a small multi-page spread on scale model rods. Steve Magnante also gave new kits and books on model cars frequent plugs when he was still a staffer at Hot Rod, and he devotes a few minutes to them on his AWB Funny-Car How-to DVD. It almost looks like the 1:1 books are picking up the slack, and promoting the hobby once again. About the only thing that could be better would be to see 'Modeler's Corner' come back to Street Rodder! That, or better still, MCM going monthly!
jbwelda Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 thanks terry, i will keep an eye out for it. 20$ is more like what i had in mind.
