JamesW Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 What's the best thing to use to strip acrylic? I made the mistake of using acrylic clear over enamel and it cracked the paint. I've had it soaking in the purple pond for about 3 days and it still won't come off. Any suggestions?
charlie8575 Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Try Model Master Dried Acrylic Paint remover. I used it and it works very well. Use great caution, though, as it's quite strong, and follow the directions to the letter. I'd also recommend trying 91% alcohol. I don't think it'll bother regular paint. Charlie Larkin
JamesW Posted December 14, 2009 Author Posted December 14, 2009 Thanks. I tried sanding it down a little and then dropped it back in the pond. If that doesn't work I guess I'll head to the store.
Brendan Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 A couple of questions... Is it a water base acrylic or is it a lacquer based? If it's water based, you can use alcohol or citrus based cleaners and it will strip it off. If it is lacquer based, you can use a product called Scale Coat II.
Jantrix Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Actually I'm just surprised to hear that acylic crazed over enamel. I've been using Krylon Acrylic Crystal Clear over enamels and lacquers now for years with no issues.
