vizio93 Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 (edited) Is this a good kit ? I'm wanting to make it look like this : Has any body slammed one like this ? Edited December 23, 2009 by vizio93
ki4dsy Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 that kit is more or less a snap kit, but you can make some cool stuff out of it. I have put one of those kits together. the tires that came with it were very bad. the truck in the picture looks like a 379. you might want to get a 379 model off of ebay and use it. Ive never slammed one before but I think you could do it. take your time and let us know how it turns out.
vizio93 Posted December 21, 2009 Author Posted December 21, 2009 Thanks, I'll try to go to the LHS tomorrow and see what truck models they have. I'll most likely get the 359 just for a starter to build. Does it have a engine ?
kwtrucker Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 (edited) Billy, The Pete 359 kit your asking about is a good kit. It has a Cat 3406 engine in it, (straight 6). It has good detail for a snap tite kit and for the price. If you want to lower the Pete I have some directions on how to modify the suspension, if you want a copy. With a little work you can lower it like the green 359 in your two photos. Send me a pm if your interested in the directions. Doug Edited December 21, 2009 by kwtrucker

Doug Thanks for the info Doug, I'm going to go to the LHS and get it today (hopefully if I can get out of this snow ). I'll definitely send you a PM when I get it. Do you have any pics of the one you lowered ???
vizio93 Posted December 22, 2009 Author Posted December 22, 2009 Ok so I got a 359 and I plan on making it close to the look that the pictures above look. I have always loved the way that a slammed semi looks, so I'm gonna make one . Hopefully I can get some pics tomorrow.
vizio93 Posted December 23, 2009 Author Posted December 23, 2009 I am fairly surprised at the amount of detail it has. I have took it out of the box and messed around with it a little, and it's going to be kinda hard to lower it in the front though because of the engine. Doug sent me some really nice instructions to lower it, and if any body wants them i'll be happy to send them to you. The only problem I see with this kit is that the tires don't want to fit on the rear wheels. Does any one make rear wheels and tires, maybe out of resin ?
Jim B Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 The tires are the one big comlaint with this kit. Check here & here. You might be able to find something you can use.
vizio93 Posted December 23, 2009 Author Posted December 23, 2009 (edited) Thanks James I think I found some nice rear rims I can use from that website Edited December 23, 2009 by vizio93
Chuck Most Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 I've got two of these kits stashed, and yeah, I think the tires are easily the weakest parts of the whole thing- snap kit or no! Otherwise it's very nice!
mackinac359 Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 The tires don't want to stay seated on the rims. I ended up putting a very small amount of CA glue (you could you fast setting epoxy too) on the inside of the tire to seat to the rim. Be careful not to get any CA glue (super glue) on the chrome as it will fog the chrome. Tim

Oh well, either I have to glue 'em or got some new ones
