cgarcer Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I have been out of modeling for a while now. All of my paints will need to be replaced. I always used Testors enamels since they are the cheapest and easiest to find. Now that I am starting over, I thought about trying Model Master or Tamiya. I can't get Tamiya locally. I don't have an airbrush. I've read that the acrylics work well with a brush and I've also read that they don't. I tried Testors acrylic years ago and I could not cover with it at all. Is it worth switching to one of these brands, or should I stick with the Testors enamel?
weasel Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 the ModelMasters new 'one coat' lacquers are great to work with.. a good sub for Tamiya... don't forget acrylic craft paints to detail interior/motor/chassis pieces... the MOST important part is to have FUN!!!
PatRedmond Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I swear by Tamiya bottle paints and sprays, but I have had easy access to it for years now in Canada. Testors Model Master is good as well.
Nick Winter Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I've used all types of model/Hobby paint, I hvae no preference they all do there job.

It is hard to beat Tamiya sprays even if you had to order online, and you might want to consider getting an airbrush it can make a world of differnce no matter what you are shooting.
chris coller Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 If you are looking for Tamiya paints try MEGA HOBBY on ebay. $6 a can and flat shipping on your order. I believe the cost of shipping is $7.50. They carry all kinds of kits, paints, and detail items. They are located in New York
Greg Cullinan Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I have switched from Testors to Tamiya. I like the Tamiya spray cans as well as their brush paint. The main reason I like their brush paints is the bottles.I have a hard time with Model Masters and Testors after I use them the lids always get stuck and the paper washer in the cap comes out.I am also a big fan of Testors and Model master spray cans.
David G. Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 I recently tried Tamiya sprays for the first time and I must say I'm very impressed. I found myself thinking "Wow, this is like an airbrush in a can!" The only complaint I have is that they don't seem to have the spray-can colors in available bottles. If they do, I haven't been able to find them.
