Jon Cole Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Someone just e-mailed me, said that Tom Geiger announced the NNL East "Internet Theme" award this year will be the Revell '32 Ford 5-window, and the '32 Ford sedan. I also heard from another source that the new 5-window is "out of the pipeline" as it is a Special Issue. That would mean that stores won't be able to get more.
chris coller Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Why wouldn't it be a 32 Ford? This kit is so over done it's ridiculous. How about something more original? Maybe it is just me but I don't get the allure of this car. Yeah I have built one just to say I have built the most popular kit on the market. But It doesn't appeal to me because so many people have built them. Again played out!
Eshaver Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Isn't Revell comitting a suicide mission here ? This is the kind of stuff A M T has done through its former owners . Seems to me the sales of the 5 winow coupe should be substancial enough to do a combined street- rod / stock version in addition to allowing the sedan to use the same tools . Common , if a " Start- Up company which bills itself as D T R , hummmmmm looking vaugely familliar to A _ _ can continue to dump out a highly dubious body , why can't Revell continue the sale of a obviously popular kit ? I dunno, I'm retired and I consider mysef " An Over the Hill Hippy " what am I supposed to know anyway ? Ed Shaver

I agree......These 32's have been done to death......*yawn* Time to move on to something else.....I don't think theres anymore that can be done with these things. I think we've probably seen every single possible building variation of this car under the sun....Seriously, what more can be done with this poor car?......lol.

Jeff, it must just be us younger guys that can't relate to that style of car. I build alot of different subjects and have plans to build a F-14 TOMCAT. I picked the kit up for $25 to build and compete in my local Hobby Town semi annual model contest. I want to try and put a whoopin on the Military guys. As far as the 32 goes, please another subject. I think the web theme was great the last two years with the new Merc and the new Nova. How bout a Ferrari or Austin or the Starliner, or Corvair. Something alittle different. I know Ferrari's are common but has anyone seen an ugly one? With the exception to the Pinnafirina.
charlie8575 Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Since the subject has been borached, what exactly would you need to do to a Revell '32 to make it stock? I mean, aside from obvious things like engine, wheels, add fenders on the coupe, and so forth? Charlie Larkin

Yeah, I actually build some aircraft myself. I'm a big fan of the old biplanes and war planes and such...I also attend some airshows, but hey, don't tell these car guys around here, or we'll likely get black-listed.....LOL. I like the 32 fords, but I've seen so many of those things that I could probably fill all seven of the seas with them, and still have a few left over.... A ferrari theme would be cool....How about big rigs? There are some outstanding builders who specialize in heavy commercial..... Like you said though, alot of times the "themes" are typically based around the "flavor of the month kits" such as the nova, the new 49 merc, the 32 ford, etc.. Next up, it could be the new 442 ragtop olds kit.... Edited January 10, 2010 by J. Sauber
Eshaver Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 O K , heres a STOCK REVELL BODIED 1932 FORD SEDAN .............................................................................. Now ya'all go build one . Ed Shaver
Jon Cole Posted January 10, 2010 Author Posted January 10, 2010 Guys, it's just one category! Not only that, but it's not always widely known. I was thinking of withholding the original post, to see if anyone would even mention it here. But why should anyone over at the Spotlight board think they own the show? As an "Internet" promotion, I see plenty of built deuces here... I doubt it will end as a fail. Nobody is being forced to enter that category. Every year it is different than the previous year. Just my 2 cents...
Jon Cole Posted January 10, 2010 Author Posted January 10, 2010 (edited) Hey Jon: Is that your 64 Spyder in your avatar? Are you a CORSA member? Al, Thanks for asking. The 'Vair in my avatar is just a photo I found that I like. I have owned a few 'Vairs over the years, but they are long gone. I used to be a member of CORSA, I still have the newsletters around here somewhere. I would consider buying another Corvair if it had the Crown V8 conversion Edited January 10, 2010 by Spyder
Jeff Sauber Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Actually, if they were more stock versions built of the 32, it would certainly be a bit refreshing......but 98% of the one's I usually see are all the same typical, run of the mill, hotrod format. Maybe the theme should be FAC-STOCK 32's...that would at least be a slightly different spin on a redundant subject.
Jeff Sauber Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 (edited) i'd love to see a bone stock rivet counting accurate '32 Ford built from one of the Revell kits too Dave Get Bill Geary, he'd knock it out of the park.... Edited January 10, 2010 by J. Sauber
chris coller Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 I wasn't trying to start any any trouble with my response. I said what I have to say about the 32 Ford. A bone stock 32 would be nice to see done. I don't even know what one looks like other than one Ed posted. Maybe I am being closed minded about the subject but this is how I look at it, you that song that comes out on the radio and is awesome like the first month then they play it everyday 6 times a day? That is how I view this kit.
peter31a Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 One of the things to remember is that the main themes for NNL East are: 1985: Back to the Future any vehicle from the 80's AND Pickup Lines: What's the Utes, Any form of pickup. The 32 5 window and Sedan are just the internet theme.
Jeff Sauber Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Just my .02,but I think to build a different '32 Ford, one could build a "billet rod" like back in the late '80's-early '90's. Haven't seen that style of build in a long time. I've seen enough "traditional" and "rat" rods to last me for a while personally. Even a "donk" would be refreshing change! A donked out '32 would probably give all the old timers myocardial infarction.........
Jon Cole Posted January 10, 2010 Author Posted January 10, 2010 A "donk" deuce? AMT already covered it.
Jeff Sauber Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Chris, there are 5 different versions of Revell's '32 Ford kits with unique parts to each kit. kitbashing just the Revell '32 kits will get you all kinds of variations alone. it's not really the same kit over and over again, each one has been slightly different from the next and so far 5 different body styles. the only one truly limited seems to be the Speedwagon woody kit. this argumement would hold water if the same '32 kit was re-issued over and over such as the 3-window body style. i see some of this in Tamiya's practice of re-issuing Ferrari kits in different colors of plastic. yellow, silver, red, apparently there is a demand for it though. i hope to see many of you guys at the show! Dave Yes, but when any one of those kits are ultimately completed, they are all still 32 fords!! A 32 ford is a 32 ford, yes?.......... [Dave, I'm just messin with ya... ] Yeah, I hope to get to my first NNL east this year, time permitting, of course.
Jeff Sauber Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 (edited) A "donk" deuce? AMT already covered it. I'm not a 32 ford buff at all, but thats even painfull for even me to look at .......ouch!!...... Edited January 10, 2010 by J. Sauber

Dave Dave, I plan on being there for sure. Maybe we can meet up and talk shop. I most likely will be hanging out at the race car table as most of what I am bring will be on that table.
Jon Cole Posted January 10, 2010 Author Posted January 10, 2010 I'm not a 32 ford buff at all, and thats even painfull for even me to look at ....... Yep. AMT officially Jumps The Shark.
Jeff Sauber Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 you asked for it................ okay, it's not a '32 Ford, but it is a circa 1950's Donk! Florida Swamp Buggies rock! Dave Oh man, a vintage donk!! Holy poop, they really did do that stuff back then........LMAO!!
Jeff Sauber Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 (edited) Maybe that's exactly what they need! The thing is though, if you wipe out the old veterans of the hobby, things could get very lean, because theres not a whole lot of younger folks getting into the hobby. They are too busy texting one another and playing the latest vid-games and hanging out on facebook. oh well, maybe 32 fords aren't so bad after all........ Edited January 10, 2010 by J. Sauber
Foxer Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 O K , heres a STOCK REVELL BODIED 1932 FORD SEDAN and a GREAT looker to boot, Ed!!
