Guest Mustang3.8 Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Hey, y'all. I picked up a new kit today. A 1969 Ford Galaxie. For an AMT kit, it's got really nice, crisp details. I'm just having trouble decideing what color to paint it. Any ideas, guys?
charlie8575 Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 A lot of the AMT kits from the 1960s are actually very nice, and still are, provided it's one of the tools that hasn't been botched up. The Galaxie falls into the non-botched-up category. Here are a few ideas for you. http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibrary/aclchip.aspx?image=1969-ford-pg01.jpg To me, those SportsRoofs looks good in a nice, dark color. I like Presidential Blue with a coordinating interior or in Palomino; if you do the blue on blue, if you feel daring, try making a white vinyl top with it to set it off a little, I think you'll like the results. If you do the gold/palomino interior, go with either a blue or white vinyl top, as the ivy gold won't look quite right. This has plenty of good interior pictures to get an idea for the right tones. http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/main.php?g2_itemId=124676 Two other color schemes most big Fords from that time frame look nice in, and were common were Candy Apple Red or Meadowlark Yellow with a black interior. Guest Mustang3.8 Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Thank you, Charlie. I like that '69 Galaxie 500. What other car has that roofline?
Roadkill2525 Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 I'd say Wimbleton White with a marron interior.
charlie8575 Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Thank you, Charlie. I like that '69 Galaxie 500. What other car has that roofline? That roofline was available on the big Fords from 1968-70, I think. The Torino had something similar, too. I also agree with ElDestructo, Wimbledon white with a red or blue interior would also look nice. Charlie Larkin
Nick Winter Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 I say medium blue interior with the white, let me know if you need pic's posted.

I am doing that color combo on a '68 Galaxie I am rebuilding from the glue bomb it was..... Edited January 20, 2010 by FordWagonNut

Uh...which color? Although, honestly, most big Fords from the late 1960s look good in almost anything. Charlie Larkin

Charlie Larkin HA HA HA, Sorry Charlie. After reading that again, yea, I biffed on that one. I'm going to repaint my '68 in Wimbleton White with a marron interior and add some wheel covers from the '70 LTD. I think that will look really nice.
Monty Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Question for the Ford experts: Wasn't this body style only available as the "XL"? In regard to your question about colors for this car I did a quick Google search and found this http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c166/Randy1955/AMT1969FordGalaxieXLb.jpg I think the color works very well. Growing up, we had two '69 Galaxie convertibles and a friend of my parents had a beautiful XL in Ford's light yellow, so I'll be curious to see what you decide to do with yours.
