trogdor Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 I am just in awe at some of the detail I see on this forum. I've noticed on some of the builds that valve stems were added to the rims. Are they home made details or available aftermarket ?
Jeff Sauber Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 I am just in awe at some of the detail I see on this forum. I've noticed on some of the builds that valve stems were added to the rims. Are they home made details or available aftermarket ? The set I used on my "Christine" model are offered by Pro-Tech and are quite nice. They are turned aluminum pieces and are nicley scaled to size. Check 'em out on the "pro tech site".
Harry P. Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Drill a hole in the wheel, and glue in a short piece of wire. Paint it flat black or silver. Can't get much simpler than that.
Pro Tech Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Here's a picture of our machined aluminum valve stems (PTMC 72). Our website is below http://www.protechmodelparts.com Charlie Pro Tech
trogdor Posted January 18, 2010 Author Posted January 18, 2010 Thanks for the quick replies. Charlie you've got some great products on your site.
Lyle Willits Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Just put a small piece of "spark plug" wire into a drilled hole in the wheel.
crazyjim Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I've used scale ignition wire for valve stems and also "hard lines" I got from Rick at Scale Dreams.
roadhawg Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Heated and stretched sprue makes good valve stems too. Since a real street car valve stem is wider at the base, you can cut a piece of the sprue right in the taper. Use black sprue and you don't even need to paint 'em.
