3men2s Posted March 31, 2010 Author Posted March 31, 2010 935, this is one of my favorite car, I have that one on my list to re do. like you said, it needs lots of work and thats why I want to re doit right. Will be watching your build to get pointers. I have two Motorcrafts, but will order the speedline decals to have the miller version. Ilike it so much, that I will get another one in ebay, they are cheap!!!! to also do the miller with the red roof. we have a month for this build to be finish, let me get back to my bmw.....
Modelmartin Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Group 5 was one of my favorite racing series. I wish something like it would be revived. Maybe I would follow racing again. The DTM is almost like group 5. Here are a few of my builds. Scale designs kit. Gotta love Interscope paint schemes. Cheezy AMT/ERTL/Esci release of japanese kit. Can be made to look OK at a foot or so. I have Tokyo/Marui kit of this car that is way better. Fujimi kit with Studio 27 decals for Emerson Fittipaldi racing in Argentine 1000K. Easy build. Group 5 car racing in last year of group 6. The Kremer 917/81. Love it. Love it. Love it. Heller 917 with scale designs decals in back. More later.
Pete J. Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I agree with the remark about the DTM series. What I like most, other than the racing is that you can actually see a production car underneath all the racing stuff. You can still see the origins. They also had some really great drivers! Aw heck I liked everything about group 5.
sjordan2 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I am continually in awe of the skills of the people who visit this forum.

Ken Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 (edited) Hey, I wanna join! I am gonna build this car... I got the starting point... I think I may not meet the deadline though!!! No way I could do it, but it would be so cool to tool around town in that blue car!!! I would join the build for real, but I got way too much else going on. I will watch this thread though. Some super work on some incredible cars. Edited April 6, 2010 by Ken
Pete J. Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 I wasn't even aware that Toyota participated in group 5! Cool car though.
3men2s Posted April 6, 2010 Author Posted April 6, 2010 please check some early post in this theme someone posted great photos in this unique celica. Man, if the kit you have is the tamiya curbside for sure you can do it in a month. the most time comsuming would be the body and tires details. with a good paint and decal work, some photo etch clips here and there and a clean interior, for sure you could do sometyhig cool. listen, I have the same all excuse, someday I would build this and that and years past and it does not go no were. we all love group fives but hardly people build them take advantage of the buildoff for motivation and let's have fun remembering the great old days of real racing. there will be time to do everything else....go open that box, see what you need and go to the hobby store and get it. clean the parts and the body. it will take you an hour or two. spray it, leave it...do some of the chassie, next couple of days take your time in the wheels, paint them right. detail, it will make the model stand out....the body should be dry, check, wet sand if you have to. do the decals, let it dry , next day a spray clear....next days finish the chassie part. and in the last week a little polish and you are done. come on....GROUP5, GROUP5, GROUP5, GROUP5.....
3men2s Posted April 6, 2010 Author Posted April 6, 2010 Follow this link Toyota Celica Gr. 5for some great pics of a very cool Gr. 5 car. I wish Tamiya would re-issue this one. The 1/20 scale version was very nice with full engine detail. THIS IS THE LINK FOR THE GROUP 5 CELICA i WAS TALKING ABOUT.
Ken Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Did you see the picture of the 'kit' I was planning on using
3men2s Posted April 6, 2010 Author Posted April 6, 2010 Did you see the picture of the 'kit' I was planning on using YOU R BRAVE IF YOU R GOING TO DO IT FROM A STOCK BODY....IF THAT IS THE CASE YOULL NEED A YEAR JUST TO CLEAR YOUR HEAD ...LOL THANKS FOR WATCHING.
Ken Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 Okay, does it have to be an actual Gr. 5 racer? Can I build a Gr.5 inspired road car. Here is what I am thinking of building a tribute-esque model of... http://speedhunters.com/archive/2009/11/12/car-feature-gt-gt-rauh-welt-natty-dread.aspx

We are trying to do full historic race cars, this is a street car build today. I really will love to see it build man even it does not fit in this build off. wicket
Ken Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 That is what I figured, but I will still keep building it. Freaked me out just a minute ago... could have sworn this topic was in the 'On the workbench' area. Now it is in the general area... did I pull a Doctor Who?
Harry P. Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 That is what I figured, but I will still keep building it. Freaked me out just a minute ago... could have sworn this topic was in the 'On the workbench' area. Now it is in the general area... did I pull a Doctor Who? This topic was in the "On the Workbench" section... but since there is not one photo of anything "on the workbench," I moved it to where it should have been in the first place, which is "General."
Ken Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 one thing that had to go is the pre molded side exaust. Replaced by a bigger pipe that actually will be conected to the pipe. Here is one I have been working on, Monogram's Miller Mustang. I have a new Speedline decal sheet for it. I have been pinning and making it mechanicly sound so everything locks in place and is straight. This kit takes allot of work to build nicely. The roll cage had to be reworked to fit the car's roof line, they had it sloping down to the back of the car, it now follows the roof line. The wheels are just junked ones from an old build. I maybe crazy and most likely am, but these pics suspiciously look like they were taken at a 'workbench' Now mind you, they are much cleaner than mine and most others benches and may in fact be hoaxes. Until proof is given that they weren't taken at a workbench, I think it should be taken a face value...

When I was going through this thread I didn't see any in progress photos, so I figured it would fit better in the General section... but you're right. Sorry guys, my mistake... now you're back where you were before.
Ken Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 You're fine Harry. I tried to post to it this morning and it must have been right as you were moving it. When I clicked the post button, it came back with a 'no such topic' error. That is what started the whole thing. I found it quite comical. A nice light start to the morning. Thanks for the giggles

JUST AN IDEA. Edited April 13, 2010 by 3men2s

3men2s Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 Great, I will start planning for the 66 Galaxie I have in the stash My Porsche is street legal, but only seats one... for the porsche, just get factory back seat and another racing seat for the pasenger side.
wgflatliner Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 i've been cranking away at the jager BMW 320i. so far its a simple build. i would like to know if anybody has any reference photos for things like plug wires, etc
wgflatliner Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 wow, i actually got it done in time. umm... it's not much but here's the only gr.5 car i could find, the jager bmw. i know the flaws. the windshield decal confused me. both sides of the window appeared identical, so i put it on. lo and behold it's on the back window. also masking tape ate some of the decals. oh well!
