We are really getting hit hard by this snow storm so I took advantage of some time and in between shoveling and building, I finished off the bumpers. I think this kit has one of the most beautifully detailed bumpers of any other kit out there, specially the rear ones with those beautiful tail lights!!

If you guys notice, in this picture I had to scrape off part of the chrome on the side. A lot of modelers forget about this small detail when building this kit. The body actually extends all the way up to the edge of the headlights!

As you can see by the 1/1 photo, it's pretty visible. I believe it's probably some sort of vinyl or plastic extension, don't think is part of the actual body!!

I want to thank my very good friend, Luis Ayala in Puerto Rico for reminding me of this small detail, he told me about the little issues he had while building his and I am thankful for his input!!

Great build, I have a few Caddies in the wings and this will be a great reference point and inspiration.

Marcos, you continue to blow my mind with your spectacular builds. I wish to be at your skill level one day, but this day I have to shovel snow... I have a '59 Caddy in the stash, but I'm not gonna get to it very soon. Great work!!!

The pods left and right of the bumper do not contain taillights, only the back-up lights and cat eyes. The taillights are up in the fin pods.

Those body extensions that contain the headlamps on the real car are diecast metal, not plastic. They weigh about half a ton each.

The paint work is awesome!!

I don't envy you in getting all of the BMF work done on that bohemoth!! ohmy.gif

Those old cars from the 50s and 60s had a lot of chrome and stainless steel trim on them.

Cruz,

The Eldo is coming along nicely. If you didn't do the headlamps, I would have rode you like Secretariat at the meeting. (lol). I did mine the hard way, by cutting the back of the bezel off of the headlamp ring, de-chroming ot, and attaching it to the body before I primed it. I may bring my Shawn Carpenter '60 Eldorado Biarritz to the meeting, if you like.

Congrats Marcus on being the second one on the planet to do the front bumpers correctly. I just spoke to Bob Downey about this on another thread. I looked at 9 different 59's when I did mine and took about 2 months looking through research. Congrats on getting it right!!!

Cruz, yours is coming along fantastic!! Yeah, that BMF can be a pain for cars of that era................but where would we be without it!

Finally finished the foiling!! Took some pictures outside and even in the shadows it just doesn't look right to me, can't notice the BMF work as clearly as in the inside of the house. The light color of the body has a lot to do with it. :D

At least one can distinguish more clearly the actual true color of the paint!! Below are a few inside pictures.

Thank you Bill for getting up the pics I could not and for the very nice comments. Coming from you it means even more. Thanks for the nod.

As for the BMF, there is a "cover" piece Marcos that fits on top of the two pieces on the side of the car (rear side) where the top trim and bottom trim come together just forward of the rear bumper, just even with the center line on the tail lights (in the bumpers...not the torpedo lights on the fin). This will help you, because you can use a strip for the top piece of trim and one piece for the lower piece and have the two meet at this point. Then you can burrow down the seam really well, and then trim a "cover" piece on top to hide your seam, and you will be correct in doing so. I will try to find a link or a pic on line to help show what I am trying to describe. Plan on at least one sheet by the time you get through with the top of the front fenders, sides, and rockers. I know you know this, but MCG has an absolutely BEAUTIFUL photo etch that makes this kit really stand out.

Sincerely,

David

Hey Marcos

It might be to late, but if you go to this site, and go to the bottom of the page, you will see one in Kingsington Green. If you look just forward of the rear bumper, on the side of the car, where the top trim comes down to meet the bottom trim coming up, halfway between the top and bottom of this juncture you will see a lip and this is where the top trim lays on top of the bottom one, so they over lap just a little. So a seam here is normal.

I have a few more pics of a real one that I will try to load.

Hey Marcos,

Tired of BMF yet?

Nice job on the BMF. If someone has never done this kit before, they have no idea just how much time it takes to do this model!!!

David

Thanks for the input my friend and yes, I am tired of foiling this thing...... :(:( The website you sent is very helpful!!
