Nick,

I am not sure how detailed you are trying to make this model, but an easy way to getting a realistic looking chassis is to pirate the one from the AMT Snap Fast Tahoe kit (the same kit that has the wheels you were looking for earlier). The wheelbase is identical and the truck fits on with minimal adjusting.

There was some resin caster who was offering a resin front end as a conversion but I cannot remember who it was, maybe Perry's resin?

Yup, Perry's has it. :(

Even a diagram would work, I just don't get how this set up works, it has coil springs and torsion bars for the front axel?

2WD uses coil springs and shocks*

4WD uses torsion bars and shocks*

*In addition to the double a-arm arrangement.

Check out these links for diagrams:

I checked my hard copy for that and got the same problem, how do the front wheels get power, that's what's got me confused, I get how it works up until we get to the fron suspension.

Well since the rest of the thread is concerning chassis components.......

I realize that but people tend to jump on and off topic around here like it's hop scotch.

In this picture you can see the front differential is on the driver's side of the subframe. A solid tube runs towards the passenger side. At the frame rails, the axle powers the front wheels with a pair of half-shafts.

wish someone here owned one and could help me out. thanks for that picture too bad it wasn't bigger.

Randy has the 4X4 suspension. There was a company that made the GMC grille, but I think they went out of business.

Nick,

I think you may be over-thinking how to replicate the front suspension. Like I originally stated, the Tahoe Snap Fast kit has a chassis that you can swap in easily under the truck, eliminating the need to fabricate any components. The resin piece from Perry's is cast from the same kit, IIRC.

Unless you are trying to replicate something EXACTLY like the 1:1 and need that killer detail, using the above pieces should be enough to get you by. The Aoshima Toyota Pickups have a similar style front suspension that you could probably copy some ideas off of.

Do a search here, I think someone may have already built a truck similar to what you are working on.

ok I',m not worried about the grille I aleady scratch built it.

What kit are you planning on using for the body?

WellI'm building a '94 GMC stepside, which kit fits that the best (AMT '90 Chev C1500 Stepside)

Alright, so you have two options (as far as I know):

1) Use the chassis from the Tahoe kit, as mentioned. Everything is set, but there probably isn't much detail.

2) Used the suspension from the Revell Stock '99 Chevy Silverado kit, since the suspension didn't change much between the two generations. There will probably be a bit of fab work, but it will be more detailed.

the '99 isn't 4WD

I said the stock '99 Silverado kit, which isn't produced anymore, but still can be found online (I ordered one from Amazon recently).

This kit.

Nick is right though, that's not 4X4.
