Just wondering if anyone has made curved straight stacks out of aluminum tubing and what the best way of bending the tube is without smashing it? Thanks

you need a tube bender aluminum Ramplas you sand you toasted with a torch too much attention if not break it if you find the AGS T2005 aluminum tube is pliable. but is harder to find and quite expensive.

I realized mine myself I arch down to 90 degrees and up a little bit less.

this is good work to you.

Just did a set of pipes on a '33 Willys. All you need is a tubing bender - looks like a tightly wound spring - and bend slowly & easily. I then removed the aluminum tube and cut where I thought appropriate. Pics of my Willys will be posted soon.

One quick tip in here. While bending, it is a good idea I found to put a soft pliable wire like solder or the likes inside the aluminum tubing to help make sure it does not kink on you. Again, it has to be a soft pliable wire so once the aluminum tubing is bent, you can still get the wire out. Thanks. Jody

Use a K&S spring style tube bender .if you want to freeze water in the tubing then bend to your perfect angle...warm up and polish!!

Wow, this is a KISS idea. I'm going to have to try this for sure.

I know you guys are going to call me crazy but use sand. Tape the end off fill'er up with sand then slowly bend. Works well for me. Also, on occasion i will use my automotive tube bender if i cannot get the right angle with the spring style. the sand offers a plyable interior that will not kink then simply dump it out and press on.

I was actually thinking about trying sand or railroad ballast.. Got to thinking and when water is frozen it expands...

I don't want to put anyone off from using aluminum and you may not be able to find it small enough for what you are doing, but I use steel brake line tubing, it's easy to bend by hand and doesn't kink or flatten as easily as aluminum. The only luck I've had with aluminum is to anneal it first to soften and then run a piece of solid core copper wire inside to keep it from flattening while bending. Like I said...this may not work for small scale projects.

Jody, haven't seen any posts in your chopped Willys thread....I have the bodies boxed and was going to add some other stuff in 1/25th scale if you are going to try and put together a group build. Contact me off site so that I can get this out to you. As I said before there is no cost to you, all Rick and I ask is that you use it to help all the members and not for trade or personal gain.
