RodneyBad Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 Nice work Rodney! You need to join us here with your build... off road linky Thanks. I don't think I could afford to split my attention span tho I'll check it out tho. Could pick up some good ideas b-4 Mr Zinn does.
Gray Smith Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 (edited) I just wanted to thank you guys for making me go out and buy the Mount'n Goat Jeep Commander, and 2 sets of So-Real wheels and tires yesterday...all these nice threads with lifted vehicles has made me wanna build something else 4wd...so that gives me an IC Scout, the Jeep Commander, and a Toyota Hilux that i'm repainting. Rodney, great work on the CR-V, i'm digging all the mods and i'd def drive it in real life. I'm using this thread and the others by Dave as reference/inspiration. Any tips on scratching up suspensions? I need to lift the IC Scout some and its suspensions are kind of basic. Keep up the great work Rodney! P.S. Thanks for the link Jeff, thats just the place I was looking for! Edited February 23, 2010 by stryfe101
Jordan White Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 so that gives me an IC Scout...I need to lift the IC Scout some and its suspensions are kind of basic. Don't you mean IH Scout?
RodneyBad Posted February 24, 2010 Author Posted February 24, 2010 Any tips on scratching up suspensions? I need to lift the IC Scout some and its suspensions are kind of basic. Thanks. MrZinn started all of this and he is Kickin But.. Being that the suspension is leafSprings. that does make it easier. You can scratch build taller leafsprings. and lift blocks. Find a Monster truck and borrow the suspension a 4 link is a little tougher but just like the 1:1 rigs I took my suspension links off of a toy and just faked the rest. Springs from ballpoint pins. Stock up on Evergreen plastics, there are lots of choices and the more the better. Thanks Dave, it helps having a real winch Near by to compare. I'm working on having a friend cast my winch or learn to cast from him soon. Thanks Bobbie
Blake Rogers Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 (edited) i love ur work so far man u should do a mini build on that winch Edited March 1, 2010 by moparfan426
Gray Smith Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Don't you mean IH Scout? LOL yeah, I meant to say IH Scout...my brain took the day off yesterday you can change the Scout to a "spring over" set-up and gain some lift pretty easily, kind of i had to make a new set of front springs as i destroyed the kit ones. the rear was easy! it will need longer driveshafts too i think. since i don't have a clue as to what i'm doing i never showed it to anyone. Dave Cool, I just looked that up and that seems like an easy one to do..Thanks Dave! Gray
RodneyBad Posted February 26, 2010 Author Posted February 26, 2010 Nothing new built yet but found another tire option. They measure 45 Inches in 1/24 with a 24 inch wheel. Might be a bit on the Large size for the Honda.. Losi Micro Crawler tires Compared to the Aoshima Super Swamper
Jordan White Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 I'm assuming this will be a mudding CR-V correct? Won't get much flex space with those!
RodneyBad Posted February 26, 2010 Author Posted February 26, 2010 I'm assuming this will be a mudding CR-V correct? Won't get much flex space with those! Naaaah, Tires aren't too big, fender wells are too small. A Saw-zall will cure all Another set of tires for the Pegboard. I think I have more wheel/tire combos than models.
RodneyBad Posted February 27, 2010 Author Posted February 27, 2010 (edited) Zukiholic....Very Cool Build!! Thanks. Even tho the optional tires are a bit Huge. Ya gotta admit they look cool on it. at a Price of $12-$13 bucks. 1 7/8 inches tall too. They look good and are much Lighter than the So-Real tires and just as Large.. And Much Softer.. RodneyBad Posted February 28, 2010 Author Posted February 28, 2010 nuttin new but I'm getting better I'm also working on a better looking Warn Winch The gray ones are molds.. I didn't make the molds or copys (2-part mixin stuff) but I did make the originals. I'm gonna learn soon and I got the stuff to do it with One Winch was made almost 5yrs ago One was made a week ago and the better one was made Friday. There is 3 attempts at making a winch and they are gettin better.
Brizio Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Looks great!!! If you want try other tires I have some Super Swamper TSL Bogger, and Interco Trxus M/T.
Blake Rogers Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 (edited) wow i love them man would u sell some if u made a bunch ? Edited March 1, 2010 by moparfan426
Brizio Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Those are the tires that I'm talking about! Let me know.!
RodneyBad Posted March 2, 2010 Author Posted March 2, 2010 Thanks Brizio Those So-Real tires are Great but Huge and Heavy. Ya really got to build up a suspension to hold up to them. And I have No lack of tires options. (a.k.a. have them too ) The Winch I hope to cast as soon as I figure out casting is this one. Or if ya get the Urge to build one The plans are Crude but affective.. And a 1/24 scale ruler comes in handy. I don't know if I could sell them since the castings really aren't that Great. and I'm still trying to figure the system out. Thanks Dave, I have thought about dong a 1:1 lifted 2wd in a Pre-Runner style. Fords work best at it with the Twin I-Beam set up. I'll have to work on the Fairlead a lot more. Normallly I just glue the Round stock to the bumper and build it up from there. Mmmmm, Got me thinking tho..
Space Cowboy Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Man i am sorry that i missed the begining of this one. You are doing some outstanding work on the suspension and the winch..I am hooked on this one now..
RodneyBad Posted March 7, 2010 Author Posted March 7, 2010 (edited) Man i am sorry that i missed the begining of this one. You are doing some outstanding work on the suspension and the winch..I am hooked on this one now.. Thanks alot, it means a lot coming from you.. Well not a lot of work done but I painted the Bumper so you can see the color I'm going with and changed out the Winch. This Winch came from the Revell Lori Croft Tomb Raider Jeep Rubicon that also has some nice tires. This Winch is a Resin one I did My Winch was too big for the hole and this one looks off and now I know what it's missing, The Clutch housing on the right side.(research, research, research) I'm also working on some Steering Knuckles for my Axles, looks kind've funny without them. Edited March 7, 2010 by Zukiholic
RodneyBad Posted March 8, 2010 Author Posted March 8, 2010 I fixed the Winch Issue. Old style on the left, corrected style on the right. Dang, the camera pics up Every Lil Dust speck.. a few pin hole air bubbles but I'll live.. Now it's too wide. Guess I'll stay with the old style or a modified version that fits.
Blake Rogers Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 (edited) what about using you one of the ones you made ? they look more real to me i mean you did a great job on them Edited March 8, 2010 by moparfan426
RodneyBad Posted March 9, 2010 Author Posted March 9, 2010 Looks funnier with that - guessing here - Toyota rear axle pumpkin? MPC Dodge D-50. I'm working on some Dana 60s for Monograms Ford F-350. and steering Knuckles (just for looks) moparfan426: what about using you one of the ones you made ? If I use one of the other Winches, I'd have to either make a new bumper or Notch the Dog turd out of it to make it fit. BTW: it Mailed it off today, Shhhhh

RodneyBad Posted March 9, 2010 Author Posted March 9, 2010 (edited) Okay. Making a set of Axles I already did it twice tonight but forgot the knuckles the first time. BTW: the 2 piece molds are a little bit harder to make but one piece molds are Easy. One is from the monogram F-350 and the other is monograms Pro-stock 80's Camaro?? plus some generic axle knuckles. To make them even easier to modify I cast them, placed a 1/8 tube before I pouring the resin so I have a hollow axle. Easy to adjust the width and off-set. Now all I gotta do is redo the suspension Think I'm having more fun casting parts and it is easy for simple things. Edited March 9, 2010 by Zukiholic
