oldscool Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 (edited) Here's another one that has been stalled due to not being able to paint the body outdoors. Did get the body painted today but no pics of that yet. Got the chassis and interior done. Once again, the pics show up flaws not visible to my aging eyeballs. oldscool Edited April 19, 2010 by oldscool
oldscool Posted March 8, 2010 Author Posted March 8, 2010 Here's some pics of the paint. Two coats of Boyds True Blue Pearl over silver. it will be dry enough to continue work in about 2 weeks . Wish they made this color in laquer. oldscool
sjordan2 Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Did that steering wheel come with the kit? It's one of the cleanest versions I've seen of that type of wheel.
oldscool Posted March 8, 2010 Author Posted March 8, 2010 (edited) That is the kit steering wheel and I will try to paint the rivets before i get the interior intalled. Everything on this build is straight OOB except the tires. oldscool Edited March 8, 2010 by oldscool
Ryan S. Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 This is looking good. I like the red oxide on the frame and base. Nice work on the paint job, that blue is sweet; I agree about the Boyd paint taking forever to dry. My girlfriend is building this same kit as her first model and is really enjoying it. I was happy to see it go together pretty smoothly and cleanly. I'll show her yours for some inspiration!
oldscool Posted March 9, 2010 Author Posted March 9, 2010 Thanks Ryan. I did the chassis in red as the real ones were done that way from pics I have seen of restos. This is a great kit with no fit issues at all. It just comes with puny tires for a race car so I used some slightly larger tires on it. And I do mean slightly. Have your girlfriend post pics of hers when it's finished as I would really like to see it. oldscool
oldscool Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 (edited) OK, the paint is now dry enough to handle, but I won't try decaling yet. Did a mockup to see how things are looking. I will paint the engine compartment black later on. This kit comes with glasspacks molded on the exhausts. Shouldn't the full blown race version have straight pipes? WOW! the sinkhole on that gauge pod really shows. Gotta fix that. oldscool Edited March 11, 2010 by oldscool
weasel Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 yes to the pipes... they just came out the sides under the rockers around where the door meets the 1/4...
oldscool Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 Thanks Weasel and for sjordan2, this is the Revell streetburner boxing of the GT350R. This kit has been a pleasure to build with no warpage or fit issues whatsoever. My only complaints are the puny tires and the molded in battery. Oh yeah, and that sinkhole on the gauge pod . oldscool
Captain Obvious Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Exceptionally clean build, looks great! Here's mine...far from perfect, but it looks okay... I scratchbuilt my exhaust from brass tube and painted them white...looked better than the kit parts.
oldscool Posted March 21, 2010 Author Posted March 21, 2010 (edited) Yours looks really good Mark Got the decals on and they weren't as bad as I thought they might be. The stripes settled down well after using some Microset and Microsol. I pulled a bonehead move and glued the gas filler plate on before I put the stripes on and had to try to trim around the plate. It looks a little ragged but I will touch it up with some white paint before I add the last clear coat. The tire decals also turned out real well and the tires were dullcoated after the decals dried. oldscool Edited March 21, 2010 by oldscool
Clay Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 Nice work so far Gerald, here are some pics of the one I built. Overall was a great kit, I, however, was very confused about the rear bumper.
Ryan S. Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 Looking good guys. I'm liking all of these. My girlfriend is eager to get her's finished and show it off. 2 Questions: What about that rear bumper, as in the descriptions: It doesn't really fit and I assume some trimming in needed to get it to settle in. Also, what the heck are part number 85? They aren't in the instructions and I assume they're either optional parts or to a similar kit. They're L shaped brackets of sorts, I think. Any ideas? I just get curious as to what all the part are for. Thanks, and keep up the good work!
oldscool Posted March 22, 2010 Author Posted March 22, 2010 I have no idea what those parts are either As for the back bumper-since I'm building the full race version it doesn't get a back bumper and I haven't tried to test fit it. oldscool
oldscool Posted April 19, 2010 Author Posted April 19, 2010 Now that the red oxide bomb is almost done, I got back to the Shelby. All that's left is underhood details and exhaust pipes. This one started going downhill right near the end. I did a sloppy job on the windshield trim and got glue on the windshield while putting the mirror on . Haven't got glue on a window since I was a kid . This paint really sparkles in the sun . Next pics will be in under glass. oldscool
jedimastergary Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Looks good the color is great I think the exhaust might have been street style not sure both my book on racing fords and on mustangs are packed in a box or I would look it up and know for sure. great detail on this one
