As many of you are, I am very pleased to have this kit currently available, to me, it's one of the most beautiful cars of that era. Had a few other things in mind to build but had to settle on this one even though that AMT '62 Pontiac Catalina was also calling my name, probably my next build.

I started looking at some reference photos in Google under images and found out that there is quite a little bit of work to be done on the front bumper. As you can see by the photos, there is a bit of the body color within the front bumper.

Also, the bezels around the headlights are painted black, what I did was use a black wash to do this. I will have to add a bit more later as I think it still needs better coverage. For the white, what I did was just carefully scratch off the chrome, this step exposes the white plastic underneath. I used Tamiya tape to make it possible to follow a straight line and keep myself from ruining the bumper. I will use Future Floor Wax at the end to give it a bit of gloss.

I like using these Citadel washes to help me out with this step, you do have to build them up more than the Detailer Liquids but they have a more flat look at the end rather than the bulky and glossy look you get from the Detailer brand.

I usually leave the painting phase for last but decided to paint the body today, I will not be doing too much scratch building on this thing so that means I will not have to worry about handling the body too much while I am building it. I had cleaned it up and primered it last week so it was ready for painting. I rescribed the panel lines and gave them a wash with the Citadel washes. Once dry, I will do a bit of wetsanding and polishing before placing the decals. I will not be using any clear on the body, this paint has enough inherent gloss!

As you can see, that bumper is already giving the front end of this beauty some character. I will keep you guys posted as I go. Thanks for looking!!!!

Just realized that I put this ongoing project under the "Under Glass" section. Please, Harry or any of the moderators, if you please can move it I will certainly appreciate it......

Nice start Marcos, I'm waiting for more! Any problems with this kit so far, other than what you've listed?

Just started on this kit, I have heard a lot of positive feedback on it so hopefully it will be good!

I have not touched the grille on mine yet. I rubbed the paint out on the body, Bare Metaled, and decaled it over the weekend. I have to do the vinyl roof. One thing though Cruz, the Hurst Olds had a black grille as part of its package. I have found in my research that a lot of the cars posted on the web are clones of the real thing, which lack a few details. I found a set of tires for it that will work for the kit for white letters. I will post the pics later on my post. Good luck Cruz.

Thanks Ron, you are the reason why I am doing this model when you brought yours to the meeting, like I told you, I just had to do it. Let me know about the tires, I did talk to Norm to see if he has anything good in resin for this kit and he will be bringing an assortment of them for me to choose. Keep us posted on your progress also, this is a great kit!!!;)

What you have done so far looks great! Nice job on the front bumper as most people miss that little detail, like me when I did my '70 Olds Rallye 350.

Keep the photos and updates coming.

I'm a big fan of these cars. My dad had a '69 455 Hurst Olds that he had bored and stroked. That thing would flat out fly. There is something about those gold strips over that the white paint. The '69s had rear spoilers that helped the car to look like it was moving even when it was standing still. Two weeks after he sold it, the purchaser totaled it. What a waste. I never forgave my father for selling that car  Your off to a good start on your build. Keep it up.

Thanks for sharing Marcos!

Nice subject!

I have five of the 4-4-2 w-30s, of which 2 will be "Modelhaus-ed" into '68s, and two of the '69 H/Os.

Your work is "always" a pleasure to look at Man!

Thank you!

Oh man Cruz, I am so excited to see you doing this kit, I just bought one and was eager to see some brave soul start on one, of course, what I am really saying is that I will be copying off of you!

One thing though, I think that you are forgetting that the kit comes with an additional part for the center of the grill. I believe you scraped the chrome off the grill without knowing this? Did you add the piece to the grill?

Anyway, I sure will be following this one as I am sure it will turn out as great or even better than that Caddy you just finished! Sorry for pointing out what I beleive is something you probably forgot.

Okay guys! I am now officially a dummy!!! Didn't know about the center piece of the grill. Kevin, thanks for pointing that out, no need to apologize, on the contrary, thanks! No harm done, this piece will be covered by this piece,:blink: Huh, I just repeated myself  You guys know what I mean... :(

Okay guys, a few pictures and info on the progress of my Hurst Olds!!! I polished the paint and started adding the decals on this thing. I also foiled the body and believe it guys, it has a lot of detail to foil. Carefully done, it really brings out a nice level of detail among the sea of white!!!

A little bit of "photography cheating" to expose the gloss of the paintjob.

Did all the foiling around the wheel wells, side marker lights w/ Tamiya clear red/orange paints and the rest of the body!!!

Hey Ron!! It will be an honor my friend!! Of course, mine has a long way to go, I just decided to complete the body first, couldn't wait to see those decals in place!! I will still bring it in though so you can check it out and tell me what I have done wrong!!

Marcos, you and Ron are building some tight little Hurst Olds there.

I hope it's done for the March MAMA meeting so you'll bring it.
