Casey Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 right on can you give me the site bud??? www.alumilite.com Also check out http://www.smooth-on.com/ , too. For your first time casting, I suggest you use one of the Alumilite starter kits and use a one-part mold, as they are much easier than two-part molds. The resin included with the Alumilite starter kit sets up very quickly, so be aware that you may only have one minute after the resin is mixed until it starts to firm up...which is why the slower-setting resins may be a better choice for a first-timer. I have started casting again after a decade layoff, and while I don't consider myself an expert by any means, I get good results with good planning and using one-part molds whenever possible. Resin-casting can be very frustrating at times, but also extremely satisfying when things go right. It can also be semi-expensive, as you'll probably invest $100.00 or so just to get started and you will have short shots, air bubbles, and parts that just aren't good enough. Don't get discouraged if you don't get perfect parts on the first few pours, as with practice you'll get better and so will your parts. Out of curiosity, what are you planning to cast?
Aaronw Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 I've only bought a few items from them, but I was impressed that they took the time to make sure I was getting exactly what I needed, and not just buying some stuff without knowing it was the right stuff.
