Hello

I am trying to find metallic gold and silver water slide decal paper for an ink jet printer.

I have found some for a laser and some that is not water slide.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Roger

You can just paint the decal film then use clear film for any printing you need on it. I did this by accident (I grabbed the Testors Chrome instead of clear :o ) and it looked great. :D

What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

Is this something you could print on clear decal paper and put on a metallic surface?

As an alternative, ask a local store such as Kinko's if they can do an individual sheet-fed laser printout on the metallic decal paper you mentioned, either from your file or hard copy.

If you only need one color of chrome or gold, there is another process using heat transfer foil, duplicated on a copy machine that uses toner such as you might find at Kinko's, and is ironed on. The toner part is critical, since that's the only thing the foil will stick to and does not work on laser copiers. I have used this process to make chrome Mercedes horn button logos on ivory paper for a 300 SL steering wheel. Since it has to be heated, it doesn't work well on decal paper or clear stock.

Thanks guys.

The metallic part is in the lettering. Here are two examples.

I can get the back ground art work and was going to print on gold to get the lettering. I did something similar on another build. The car was dark green so clear decal paper would not cover.

I printed on white paper and set the back ground color to dark green to match the car and it looks pretty good.

So I was hoping to do the same on gold. Maybe I am over thinking this.

You would be better off going with someone who can print them for you on an ALPS printer for that stuff. There are a few custom printers out there and while the price looks steep at first it is actually not bad when you factor in your learning curve and cost of materials.

This is one guy I used a few years back.

He has taken a break to catch up on his workload, but he did nice work. There are others out there, although I haven't used them.
