goldfinger Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 (edited) So today my ten year old drags me into Kiddlywinks( A toy store for the progressive mother or whatever) to help me shed excess cash. As she pulled me around I found a display of die casts. Mostly horrible small scale stuff, except for this cool dune buggy. It appeared to be 1/25 scale and it looked good,so I bought it and brought it home. I compared it to my Revell Empi Imp and scalewise it's right on. The chassis and engine are pretty useless but I think with a little kit bashing I'll have a cool dune buggy. So keep your eyes peeled, you might find model material where you least expect it! goldfinger Posted March 14, 2010 Author Posted March 14, 2010 now this i can't wait to see lime green for the paint though lol I was thinking a real heavy metalflake like these things used to have. Like a candy blue with big silver flakes in it.

Jon Cole Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Turn that dune buggy over. Is there a brand name on the chassis? Motor Max? Welly? Jada? BTW, this kit will be on store shelves later this year...

BTW, this kit will be on store shelves later this year... One of the many names on the bottom is schylling.com. It is (of course) made in China, but distributed from Mass. At eight bucks, this was a cool find. The level of detail isn't bad. I'm always on the lookout for oddball 1/24 or 1/24 stuff when I go to Ocean State Job Lot and similar places. The fun is in the hunt!
VW Dave Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 I was thinking a real heavy metalflake like these things used to have. Like a candy blue with big silver flakes in it. I agree - blue flake is a great dune buggy color (I might be a little biased, however) If you're into a real heavy flake for that buggy, I have a few tips to offer. Feel free to email me.
crazyjim Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Wrong!! If you're doing a dune buggy, it has to be white with some purple pearl in the clear coat. Naturally you'll want a purple stripe with red accent stripe. Hmmm, you could just look at my avatar pic.
goldfinger Posted March 15, 2010 Author Posted March 15, 2010 Thats What I'm talking about.BIG metal flake! BTW this was eight bucks.
Smart-Resins Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Dave, that paint looks real cool! You have email buddy. LOL. Jody
VW Dave Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 (edited) As soon as I snap a few more pics, I'll put together a "buggy flake" paint tutorial to share...and we all know how much a tutorial sucks without pictures, right? Edited March 15, 2010 by VW Dave
