Wow I just got the photo etched parts yesterday for this 68 Camaro Z/28 I had asked in a previous post about painting them & how to put the on & got some great feedback. Only problem is I just opened them & are you kidding I can't even see them!. I know it's my fault as I have never worked with them before & thought they were a dream come true when I saw them but now that I have them I can't even see them. So has anyone worked with these things before & really painted them? I like the idea of using a marker as I have a ton of artists markers that are used for doing cartoons from the art shop but these are so small. If anyone as worked with these please let me know how you see them? & how you cut them out?

Thank you!

Will, :)

will buddy its easy. first what i would take the tree that there on and put tape on one side flip it over and carefully cut them or it that way it will stick to the tape now to paint the part or parts try painting them before hand and use super glue or CA glue as most people call it to attach it to the model hope this helps :)

Do NOT use super glue! You WILL ruin the paint, and frost the pe part and the paint. Use either 5 minute epoxy, or a tiny drop of clear enamel or Future to glue on the part. Secondly, you will need a magnifying light to work with small pieces.

I have one word to help you. OptiVisor. :) My eyesight isn't what it used to be. I bought these magnifying glasses years ago, they help greatly with small parts such as PE. They offer different strength lenses depending on your eyesight. They are a little exspensive, but they are well made and the lenses are glass. You can get them through MicroMark.

Photoetch badges can be painted and you don't need superhuman skills to do so. It takes patience and a magnifying glass (and maybe a pinch of obsessive/compulsive focus of attention). I painted these by hand:

The Porsche badge was first sprayed with MM brass metalizer then I hand painted the little details using Tamiya acrylics applied with the tip of a needle. Affixed to the model and coated with Tamiya X-22 acrylic clear.

The Triumph badge was brush painted sloppily with Tamiya acrylics then I put it face down on a sanding stick to remove excess paint and to shine it up a bit.

Only way I can work with photo etch is under a mag goose-neck lamp. It's one of the best investments you can make.

The goose neck lights are ok, but I find it rather cumbersom. I think the optivisors are the best way ta go. They're smaller and fit on your head,so you can see thru them like glasses. Oh, and again, DO NOT USE SUPERGLUE to attach PE parts!!!
