AceofBass Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 (edited) So I did a general search for model kits on eBay and found these among others. My brother will be building the Vega while I'll tackle the Plymouth. Progress will be posted as we go. Edit 5-3: removed pics of box art to free up quota. Kits are AMT 36 Plymouth early modified and AMT rat trap vega. Completed kits will be posted soon. Edited May 4, 2010 by AceofBass
ricky12 Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 I'm looking forward to seeing more short track cars on the forum .
dwc43 Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Cant wait. Wished I had one of those Plymouth's myself.
weasel Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 saw 3 of Plymouth's today at a contest/swap...$12-$20...sealed...no Vegas tho'... the 36 Plymouth was the 1st one that i did, around the time that Drew H was doing one in SA-e, anyway, not to thread jack, but here's mine... not done with the Vega yet, narrowed the body 1/4" for this asphalt car...
AceofBass Posted April 19, 2010 Author Posted April 19, 2010 Those turned out awesome! Thanks for posting 'em! I've been trying to find pics of them completed but to no avail. dwc43, if you're not anti-eBay, there are a few of them on there I believe, that's where I got this one.

AceofBass Posted April 22, 2010 Author Posted April 22, 2010 I recieved the models today! I am about halfway done with the "Plymouth". I use quotes because upon further examination, it is branded wrong! This is a '37 Chevy. AMT even has a '37 Chevy modified kit and it is exactly the same! Oh well, it is still very cool.

First two are 36 Ply Coupes and the red one is a Chevy and the last one is a 38 Ply. Coupe. Just for reference, I looked at a 26 Dodge and it looks just like a model T except for the grill shell.
AceofBass Posted April 23, 2010 Author Posted April 23, 2010 (edited) The model I have (and the one you built), has that super-long decklid. The 1:1 Plymouth's seems to be shorter while the Chevys are longer. The box for the kit says it comes with a Chevy big block but any motor could be put in regardless of whatever body is slapped onto the chassis so I don't think that determines the make of car. It's just odd that AMT markets both the '36 Plymouth and the '37 Chevy but they are identical kits. Edit: here is the Chevy kit... Edited April 23, 2010 by AceofBass
dwc43 Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 The 38 looks longer in the tail than the 36. Maybe they just confused them or figured no one would know.
weasel Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 they all have a long deck... i shortened it to make it look right... also replaced the interior 'tin' with some 10 or 15thou plastic sheet... that lets the body sit lowwer, and to me, looks better... here's my 'Ford'
AceofBass Posted April 23, 2010 Author Posted April 23, 2010 Here's a good shot of the Chevy rear. It has the same shape as the body of my "Plymouth" Weasel, great job on yours!
weasel Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 (edited) yeah, the 'shapes' of those cars was really close, but they WERE different... 32 Chev vs 32 Ford...etc... oh, thanks for the kind words... Edited April 23, 2010 by weasel
