The Modeling Hermit Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 This is a wrecker that I've been working on for the last few weeks. It's built from Phil Jensen's excellent article, and based on a Diamond REO truck. To the Diamond REO, I added inside sunvisors, plumbing, a push bar from the Peterbilt wrecker, and I drilled out the horns and exhaust stack. I also placed the horns just above the doors. The wrecker body base is completely scratchbuilt, except for fenders from the parts box. This is to represent a basic diesel repair shop rig.
disabled modeler Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Very nice build! The old Diamond REO looks great! really like the tow booms too.
george 53 Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Kodiak, long time no see, buddy! GREAT way to make an apperance! That's lookin REAL good, but I wonder if laceing the rigging on that boom didn't make ya crazy? REAL nice job on it Doug, looks like it JUST rolled out the dealers showroom! GREAT BUILD!!!
falcongeorge Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 (edited) Very nice. Scratchbuilding the booms is a big job. Like the visors, nice touch. I am slowly doing a similar build on a round-fendered Autocar, although I am back-dating it to the mid fifties. Edited April 17, 2010 by falcongeorge
Semi Trailer Mechanic Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 That is some of your best work yet!!!
Old Albion Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 I agree with Scott. That is an excellent build! The wrecking gear looks very impressive. Great looking truck. Dave

SpreadAxle Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 (edited) That is outstanding!!! I love the white on this truck for some reason. Probably because I always see this kit painted in darker colors by their builders. Nice job. Edited April 18, 2010 by FlatbedKW
Sergey Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I like the truck and specially the body. Excellent work. I love the white and black color scheme too.

The Modeling Hermit Posted April 20, 2010 Author Posted April 20, 2010 Thanks for all of the words of encouragement. For those who asked for copies of the article, I did try to photocopy it, but our scanner is dying, and between that and the age of the magazine (discoloration), I got something that looked like it came from the Twilight Zone.
kingiguana Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Sweet build there, but it needs some grafics, like a company name, and some numbers, license plate. Nice work on that wrecker body.
The Modeling Hermit Posted April 21, 2010 Author Posted April 21, 2010 Sweet build there, but it needs some grafics, like a company name, and some numbers, license plate. Nice work on that wrecker body. They're all designed, but my tired old printer has decided that this would be a good time to die. I'm taking my time in selecting a new one, to get one that will last like this one did. I almost feel like giving it a funeral.
