Railfreak78 Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Well guys it's been a long time since I put something under glass. This needs a few touches that I want to see that are minor but for the most part she is done. This was built for my club meet (Moonlight Modelers) for glue bomb makeovers. My meeting was at 7pm and I took it to work and literally worked on it until 6:50pm to get it "done" My fiance messed up her leg and tore a ligament so I had no time to work on it. It paid off as I placed 2nd in the club. This car has a few firsts for me as I made seatbelts ,radio antenna, and cut the body and replaced damaged body parts. Thanks for looking and comments welcome. Enjoy!
Scalper Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Looks good. engine and dash vents look really good. That looks great Brian. Nick I have been trying to PM you Did you get the tire I sent you?
Railfreak78 Posted April 18, 2010 Author Posted April 18, 2010 Thanks guys! As far as the vents go I decided to use ink on them. I use it for the grill and hubcaps or wheels for most of my kits so I thought it might work and wow. I painted the silver first then did black ink. Then simply wipe off with a damp rag ( I use blue shop towels). It only costs a buck too.
Eshaver Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 It's amazing as to just how big and heavy those rides were , 73-5 Chevrolets . I had a Pontiac Bonniville from that era for a short while . it was a freebie from my then insurence agent . He did't want to overhaul the engine as it really needed one . Ed Shaver

FordWagonNut Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Not only the huge mass of these cars was something of pure amazement but the smooth ride as well. One of my friends parents had one of these growing up and I rode in it a couple times and I think I'd fall asleep behind the wheel of a stock one I had read this about my '76 LTD on some random forum: "The Battleship had a vinyl landau roof treatment and its interior was festooned with imitation wood and plastichrome. Its engine was an emissions-strangled V-8 mated to a three-speed Slush-O-Matic, which produced a 0-60 time geologists could relate to. It had no-lateral-support bench seats, soft springs, overboosted power brakes, and steering that employed Ford's most advanced sensory deprivation technology." Be that as it may, I still LOVE the lead sleds of the 60s and 70s. Driving my '78 Country Squire is like driving your living room couch and I love it. Awesome job on the Caprice, I have always liked the '71 to '76 body styles.
Harry P. Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Wow, what a battleship!!! I have a '67 Impala in my garage, so I know how huge these cars are in real life!
jedimastergary Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 That is one great build looks good and lots of great detail on it
Railfreak78 Posted April 19, 2010 Author Posted April 19, 2010 Thanks again for the compliments. I have to say now looking at my pics that the black is not orange peeled. I have to figure out Future. It bubbled like crazy and I do not know why. She wears a true triple black that only had one fault until I brushed on Future. I like the shine but it ruined texture.
RodneyBad Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Good looking Caprice. interior looks good. Nice color and wheels. looks Sinister
Guest Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Hey Brian, nice work. I love these land barges. As far as the Future clear goes, this is my opinion. They say you can brush it, but I dont like the way it looks brushed. Brushed paint is what it is, brushed. For a small area, brushing is ok. I think it really needs to be sprayed. The tricl to spraying futre is not spraying in a heavy coat, and using less air pressure than paint. Great work!
David G. Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Excellent work on the Caprice, Brian. The dash detail is just wonderful. I learned to drive in these old supercars, and I still have one. I take it out once in a while and grind up a couple of Hondas then put it back in the garage. Maybe I'll drive it to the Phoenix swap meet on Saturday.
chrismooney Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 My father used to have a Convertable just like it same year... Your model looks great!!!
