diymirage Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 well, since the charger is nearing the finish line i decided to build something completly out of my comfort zone...a chevy my wife bought me this kit ages ago so i have to build it i decided to try to spray some of this nailpolish ive been hearing about and try that out here is the body, all cleaned up, primered and based in rattle can german silver i am spraying the purple pizza polish as we speak so i should have pics of that tomorrow (allmost looks like a firebird actually) this is such a silly car, it has a transverse mounted V8 while my 1:1 passat has a longtitudinal turbo 4
jedimastergary Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Looks like a strange build can not wait to see the nail polish paint on the body sounds cool
diymirage Posted April 20, 2010 Author Posted April 20, 2010 I think it has possibilitys. I really dig the bottom one. If I ever build one it's what I'd do to it. that looks like an awesome car and i really like the whale tail but im building this OOB all im adding is wires and most likely some centerlines Looks like a strange build can not wait to see the nail polish paint on the body sounds cool well, since you asked nicely for some reason the pictures show it more blue then the purple it looks like in real life its a nice colour but it looks an awefull lot like a firebird cant wait to see what it looks like cleared and polished
crazyjim Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 I like it! What did you thin the nail polish with?
diymirage Posted April 20, 2010 Author Posted April 20, 2010 I like it! What did you thin the nail polish with? just run of the mill laquer thinner i keep a tin of it by my spraybooth and shoot it through my airbrush after every use (even when i used acrylic paint last) i put some polish in a bottle and added however much thinner made it flow nice so far im not unpleased with the way it came our for a first try
robertw Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 You may think it a "silly" looking car but it came close to production. Zora Arkus Duntov had always wanted the Corvette to go mid engine and he was pushing hard for this car before he retired in 1975. The more timid in GM & Corvette management decided to stick with what was selling rather then test new waters. rob

MrObsessive Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 The more timid in GM & Corvette management decided to stick with what was selling rather then test new waters. rob That and the safety nazis within GM at the time would never have approved of the gullwing doors. Forget the fact that the Delorean came out with them a few years later. I remember the show car in high school in the late '70's------I always hoped that future 'Vette's would have turned out like it, but it never happened.
jedimastergary Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 The color turned out great nice work on it to bad that GM did not try a run of it for sale it looks like it would sell a lot mabey with a few minor changes to itit would have been great
diymirage Posted April 22, 2010 Author Posted April 22, 2010 thanks i added some clear and polished and waxed it and it looks great i tried taking some more pictures but they dont do justice to the paintjob now i gotta get myself to build the actuall kit
