Jim B Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 Well, I'm calling her done! I managed to get the wing on the roof of the sleeper, and the turn signals on the fenders. The wing is from Eric (Porky), and has been cut down to 72" wide. The bracket is scratch built, and isn't too bad for a first attempt. I wanted to put a drop visor on it, but all the ones I made didn't look very good. I have another one of these kits down stairs, maybe I'll see if I can get a visor that looks decent. We'll see. If I get some decent weather tomorrow, I'll try to get some outside shots with the Fruehauf tanker. I like this shot!
Jim B Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 Thanks. Hopefully we'll get some sun, but I'm not counting on it. I'll get some outside shots eventually!
cowboysevens Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 great job on a true classic beuty!! dennis
Jim B Posted November 5, 2010 Author Posted November 5, 2010 No, no luck with outside shots. It rained all day yesterday, and it's supposed to rain all day today. But it's not supposed to rain tomorrow; it's supposed to snow. Nice Ford CL9000 in your avatar.
CharlieBravo Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 (edited) Sorry if this is a stupid question but is this 1/25 scale or 1/16? If 1/25, where'd you get those front alcoas? They look sharp! Nice build. Chris Edited November 5, 2010 by BjMckay
Jim B Posted November 5, 2010 Author Posted November 5, 2010 Not a stupid question at all. This is the 1/25 Monogram Snap Kenworth Aerodyne kit from 1991. It's the same one that Revell USA just reissues as the Snap Kenworth W900. Yes, it's a snap kit. As far as the Alcoas, all I did was add some of Kurt's 1/25 "Alcoa Wheels" logos to the kit wheels. Ok, so it's not 100% accurate, but it looks nice. The logos are available from SurtKraut.
Jim B Posted November 8, 2010 Author Posted November 8, 2010 As promissed! It was a bright, sunny day here in Central New York, so I managed to snap a couple of pictures of my Fruehauf tank trailer with a couple of different tractors. And I only managed to break off a mud flap from the trailer!
SpreadAxle Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Jim, the outside shots are so cool!! I love 'em. Nice work.
cowboysevens Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 nice out side pics, that jimmy looks really good in front of that tank. is that steerable axle aftermarket or do they come with it? dennis
Jim B Posted November 12, 2010 Author Posted November 12, 2010 Thanks, guys. The steerable front axle on the GMC is a kit modified part. Didn't come out quite as nice as I'd hoped, but it's ok. There's too much "slop" in the wheels.
SpreadAxle Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 The steering does look good, though. I will have to replace the steering axle on my Astro. I had a booboo when I modified it, and now it won't stay together. One of these days I'll install my replacement axle.
Old Albion Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Jim, Both of these rigs look great. The paint work on the Astro is exceptional. Dave
Jim B Posted November 12, 2010 Author Posted November 12, 2010 Thanks, but I cannot take credit for the paining on the Astro. A friend of mine did it for me.
