2002p51 Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 I haven't posted anything finished in quite a while so I thought I'd at least put up something I'm working on. This is, of course, the newly re-issued AMT Model T double kit. Pretty much straight out of the box so far. The front of the body is channeled over the frame and the grill shell is cut down to match. Colors are Testors Model Master Cream on the frame and front of the body. The same brand Zinc Chromate Green on the engine and front axle. The blue tape is the beginning of possible scallops. These will be the same cream as the frame and the rest of the body will the Zinc Chromate Green. The cream will wrap around the front of the cowl and sweep into the scallops. The engine is the kit's Lincoln and it will have three deuces. Here are the wheels and tires: What I haven't decided yet is if I will leave the green flat and the cream gloss, or flatten it all, or gloss it all!
charlie8575 Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Personally, I think all-gloss would look really nice, Drew. That's a very sharp combination and one I wouldn't have thought to try because of the flat/gloss issue. I suppose that's what gloss clears are for. On a side-note...has anyone ever tried mixing gloss clear of any kind into flat paint to shine it up? Charlie Larkin
Junkman Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 On a side-note...has anyone ever tried mixing gloss clear of any kind into flat paint to shine it up? Charlie Larkin Yes, I did. Humbrol flat with Humbrol gloss clear. You get a semi gloss, not unlike vinyl.
Duntov Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 This is some nice stuff.....keep moving on it.....I really like the wheel / tire selection......very period and very understated.....classy stuff!!! Regards Bill (Duntov)
Harry P. Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 That looks cool already! BTW... I love the jack stands you use in your photos. Nice touch...

They're cast white metal and they were sent to me many years ago by a guy in the UK. Sadly he never offered them for sale, just made a few for himself and friends. I just think projects like this look better if they're not sitting flat on the ground.
weasel Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 (edited) Drew... are those resin wheels?? from BigDonkey resins?? look exactly like what i'm using on my Flintstone bodied hotrod!! oh yeah, great start!! definitely go with the scallops...in a contrasting color of course!! The wheels are from AMT's '36 Ford. As for the contrasting color, read the original post again.
Foxer Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 (edited) I rarely make any color suggestions as this is a very personal choice on the builder. I just like the look of the body cream with the green scallops ... and cream valve covers. Maybe it's just the way it look in the photos now. Either way, these two look good in any combination. I was going to ask about the wheels too .. so the '36 Ford .. cool. I like those. Edited April 28, 2010 by Foxer
jbwelda Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 that looks great and i would be partial to leaving the chromate green as it comes out of the can/brush but glossing the cream. should look sweet. i agree on the cream colored valve covers too, would be a nice detail. sure wish those jackstands were available, they are metal? thats perfect.
