charlzrocks Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 (edited) This build has taken me soooo long! Finally done...the Reverse Engineering Inc. "Surf's Up" Back-up Deora wheelstander! The body was sectioned out just behind the front wheels by about an inch and just behind the rear wheels by about a quarter inch. The front wheel wells were cut off the floor pan to accomodate slicks, skinny slicks donated by forum member to keep the wheel well design intact, engine from the Double Whammy Studebaker kit, aluminum tubing headers, scratch made wheelie bar and roll cage, the door opens just as the real 1:1 Deora did (in the center), the rear springs were scratch made out of pvc pipe cut in half moon shape, the battery was scratch made from electronic connectors (thanks to forum members for their ideas!) Gas tank scratch built from acrylic rod, custom made decals on my inkjet printer, paint is Testors One Coat Laquer "Mystic Emerald" Green clearcoated with two coats of Future. Sorry it's longwinded but there was a lot to this first true custom build. More pics on my Fotki page in the wheelstanders album.....Comments Welcome!! Edited May 15, 2010 by charlzrocks
Jon Cole Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Charles- Way cool Back Up Pickup! Totally unexpected. I believe this has been done in the 1:1 drag racing scene over the years!

Yep, and that was a big part of my inspiration too! There were several "Back-up" type wheelstanders back in the day!
robertw Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Interesting. The Deora is one of those kits that almost all of us have built or have thought about building so it's interesting to see someone come up with a truly unique build using it. rob w
James Flowers Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 That turned out pretty cool looking. I like the way the lower door opens.
