speedy5963 Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 (edited) This is an AMT 1965 Riviera kit built pretty much out of the box with a few detail items added. The interior is painted a medium tan with tan flocking on the carpet and headliner. The wheels are baby moons out of a 49 merc with thin whites. The body has had the body smoothed and emblems and handles removed. The paint is HOK Kandy Tangerine over an Orion Silver Base. The pics do not do justice for the color. Monty Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 I've had that kit before, so I know some of the effort it took to make it look that sharp. Nice job!

speedy5963 Posted May 21, 2010 Author Posted May 21, 2010 A pic of the Rivi with a few others models of mine, my fathers and a few friends at the NNL West earlier this year
george 53 Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Paul, is that an original AMT kit, or the repopped yellow plastic kit? If it IS the repop, what primer did you use to cover it? I've had one for years, but never built it caz of that yellow plastic. Even bought a can of Tamiya white primer for it, just never got around to buildin it! Yours came out GREAT! it's KINDA motivated me!!!
Mr.Zombie Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Pretty, oldstyle, Rocks. One thing though, a wash in the doorgrove and it will be a blast.
speedy5963 Posted May 21, 2010 Author Posted May 21, 2010 MidnightProwler, George, and Mr. Zombie, thank you for the comments, this kit was the release after the yellow plastic is actually a greyish tan so it was easier to cover. I've used all sorts of primers, K36, DP's but you can get I think it is Plasticoat and there is one other I was using yesterday for filling some stuff, I'll check when I get home. I haven't used the rattle can primers as much as the regular automotive stuff mixed and sprayed out of a gun but what I've used so far has worked fine. I'll post the two I've used at home this evening, thanks again for the comments!
carrucha Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Nice Rivi. The baby moons with thin white wall tires really look good. I'm going to have to use this wheel/tire combo on one of my builds. Good job. carrucha
aksarben Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Wow, very nice. It would be cool to see some close ups of the engine area. Otherwize, looking good.

A buddy of mine is making some adjustments on my camera for me, hopefully be done today and I'll get some more pics up. Going to set up photobucket, I'm out of space as far as what is allowed through the site. Thanks for the comments

Yours came out GREAT! it's KINDA motivated me!!! The rattle can primer I"ve been using is Dupli-Color and Specialty Products Grey Etching primer. Normally shoot a few coats, I give a little more distance than normal as they tend to shoot out heavy, then guide coat with some flat black and start blocking down, hope that helps.
62rebel Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 impressive! nice color choice; i have a couple of Rivs done "semi" custom.. IMHO one of the best examples of the AMT annual line, even with metal axles and a hole through the block. i'd like to see a writeup on how to actually duplicate the "La Riviera" landau top and extended hood/grille properly! (best looking set of wire wheels from AMT in this kit BTW)

It would be nice to see some write ups on this as well, lots can be done!
62rebel Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 der de der on me. it's the "Villa Riviera", not "La..." d'oh.
