Wayne Buck Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 (edited) I purchased my copy of the "Double Dragster" kit with the tin box a little over a month ago and was planning on leaving it sealed. BUT, over the next few days it kept on calling to me from the shelf... "Wayne.... Wayne.... Open me.... C'mon, just take a look inside..." I couldn't resist anymore and had to take a peek at it's contents. After going through the box, it occurred to me that this kit was just too cool to be left alone! I built the Fiat first and am now working on the twin engine dragster. Here's a few shots of the Fiat. I painted the body with Testor's Pearl White (White Lightning) one coat lacquer, but the pictures don't seem to show the pearl at all. I guess Mr sun doesn't want to come out today. Its straight from the box with the exception of the carbs and stacks, and I widened the rear a bit. Oh yeah, and a M.A.D. mag. Hope you guys enjoy it. Edited May 24, 2010 by NJ-Wayne
Wayne Buck Posted May 23, 2010 Author Posted May 23, 2010 Here's a couple chassis shots and a better shot of the paint.
dimaxion Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Very nice . Period correct . The green windows set this off . Thanx ..
Raul_Perez Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 You think that you had trouble with the tin calling you? I've got it in stereo with two of them calling me!! And...I've got the new '25 T kit sitting on top of them calling me, too! I have got to stop buying so many models!! I'll never live long enough to build all of them. Later,
Peter Lombardo Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Wayne, looks great...very period build of a "period" kit. I am just curious.....Are you living in the land of "Big Blue" and "J-E-T-S....jets...jets....jets" and hiding that maybe you are a Miami Dolphins fan? You know Green, White and Orange?? Just saying... P.S. All kits need to be built...that's what they live for....glad you did it.

Later, LOL, I just picked up the 25 T as well. Prolly gonna do that one soon. It's nearly impossible to resist the urge to open em. At least for me it is! I already knew in the back of my mind as I was buying it, that this one probably wasn't gonna stay sealed for long. Wayne, looks great...very period build of a "period" kit. Just saying... P.S. All kits need to be built...that's what they live for....glad you did it. Funny you say that, because that is EXACTLY what I was thinking as I was laying the decals on! My mother is a BIG Giants fan. I never really got into the football thing too much, or any sports for that matter. I guess you could say I'm just 100% gear head. Great work, and you're right, the tin is WAY too cool to leave sealed! BTW, my understanding is that the boxed DD kits just arrived on our shores ... can't wait for someone to buy one so we can see the differences between it and the tin! Round 2 says the contents of the boxed kit will be the same as the original '60s issue. Based on that statement, here's my best guess as to what the boxed kit will and won't have: *It won't extra tinted clear parts. *It will have a smaller decal sheet. *It won't have the extra dragster chrome tree, but, somehow or other, it will have an extra set of spoked front wheels for the Fiat. *It will have only two sets of slicks. (Hopefully, those will the whitewall and pad-printed ones.) Like I said, just a guess _ or series of guesses, actually _ on my part. I have a feeling you might be right on that one.. Solely because I was thinking of buying a boxed kit to put inside of the tin so it would be "all there" again. Thanks for the comments, guys!
Harry P. Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 I purchased my copy of the "Double Dragster" kit with the tin box a little over a month ago and was planning on leaving it sealed. Why in the world would you want to do that??? Good thing you came to your senses and built it!
Wayne Buck Posted May 24, 2010 Author Posted May 24, 2010 Why in the world would you want to do that??? Good thing you came to your senses and built it! LOL, I dunno. Just thought it would be a cool one to keep complete on the shelf due to the tin box...and maybe worth something if I ever got into a jam. I knew I wouldn't be able to hold out anyway. hehe You're right though, Harry. Building sure was a lot more fun than looking at the box! Besides, it seems stuff like this is never really worth THAT much down the road. After holding on to it for decades, the sentimental value always seems to heavily outweigh what it will sell for and you end up not wanting to get rid of it anyway.
Wayne Buck Posted May 24, 2010 Author Posted May 24, 2010 Beautiful build...really nailed the period charm of the kit. My tin stayed sealed almost 30 seconds after I got outside the store...I had the thing open in the parking lot. Thanks for the kind words. That's funny! A lot of the models I buy end up getting opened on the way home from the store! I'll be sitting at a stop light checking out the parts and look over and notice a cute girl looking my way. lol They get that look on their face like "look at this guy playing with toy cars". My fiance is cool with the models though, and even buys them for me.
