I mixed up the newly issued Italeri Peterbilt 378 "Long Hauler" with a resin hood from Plaskit and leftover parts from a Peterbilt 377A/E kit to make a 1987 Peterbilt 377 SFFA (set forward front axle) tractor.

Here it is in primer

And here it is finished

In order for the decal stripes to lay flat and allow me to wax the Future clear over the decals, I sanded most of the huck rivets on the sleeper down to be barely noticeable. This way I wouldn't wax/polish through the clear and expose the rivets.

I used the kit stripe decals but cut the hood stripes and "notched" them for a more late 80's look.

I also reworked the sleeper mounts and sleeper extenders for the pre-Unibilt style. The bumper and headlamps are also the pre'91 style.

The grille screen is mesh from Plano Model Products (I love this stuff!).

I also uploaded a brief video on Youtube

Thanks for looking.

Great looking build.

Wonderful job, as usual, Tim. You sure do know your Peterbilts.

I modified the front springs slightly as the axle sits slightly rearward on 377SFFA than a 378.

The chassis itself is the same.

Tim

Looks great Tim. As for the chassis and such is it the same as the 377 / 378?

Hello Tim,

Till a few days ago, I thought that the PETERBILT 377 SFFA was an ungly truck, despite the fact the I like the 377 SBFA!

Looking again & again the pictures of your model I changed my thoughts. OK, it still is a little bit strange truck for me but it is nice.

Your model is very nice and impressive!!! Also I realised that the new decals of the 378 kit are very promissing for many modifications...

By the way, the video of this build is very nice too, but to short!

Whats your next? Let me guess... ... it will be a PETERBILT 3XX

The video would have been longer but I ran out of space on the memory card and the wind was picking up, causing the 'road bed' to rock and sway so I ended the photo session.

Man is that sweet. It brings back memories for me. Nice job. I notice you mentioned the headlights are pre-91. I knew it about the bumper, but what makes a pre-91 headlight on a 377? Is it the black around the edges?

Wow looks great Tim. I saw your site a while back. Love your truck shop. The paint and rivet detail is very nice. I like the grill too,.

The colour really suits this truck, would have to be the first long hauler to be modified with different bonnet

the plano grills really do make a difference to the whole appearance of the truck from the front, nice touch

What do you use to wax your future? come up really nice

Ooooo, nice choice.

Tim

Your build is a great showcase for the hood purchase. I had this in mind.
