impcon
Just wondering what techniques you guys use to take an old glued model apart? i have heard some say thatthey put the model in the freezer ad the glue becomes brittle.. any suggestions will be appreciated. I know that heavily glued styrene fuses itself together making disassembly a real problem.. just wondering how you guys do it.. Thanks in advance.. crazyjim
Throw it in the freezer and let it sit there for a few hours. Should then pull apart much easier.
mazlak
Impcon, I spritz the model with a misting water bottle before putting it into a plastic 1 gallon freezer bag. Toss it into the freezer overnight. The water gets into some of the joints and helps to force them apart as it freezes. I generally have a nice bag of fairly loose parts the next day. True 60's, whole tube of glue used builds, won't always come apart though. They require some surgery.LOL. Hope this helps. Deckerz
Could also put it in boiling water, it will melt the glue and its fast but there is a downside, it could warp parts.
Semi Trailer Mechanic
An M80 will get' er apart quick and the first time. The freezer trick does help but not everytime. If you have a part that's still intact after being in cold storage for a while use some solvent cement. Ambroid,TenX7R, Plastruct and so on. Put some of that on the joint and it'll soften it up enough to pull apart. It won't be instant but it'll work. Good Luck... charlzrocks
a new #11 blade and lots of patience, good luck!
impcon
Thanks for the input guys. I tried the freezer thing and it worked well for the most part. When the original builder put the truck that I am working on together, he seems to have painted a lot of it before assembling which has really helped I am sure.
