Ok here goes, as it is right now this cheap camera does not take very good close up pictures of my cars. What my question is...

What would make a paint look like the car flipped over and went 100mph on its top?

I am using Testors gold metallic as an underlay for a candy. I just sanded it and wiped it down and used paper(thats right plain paper) to catch the small stuff left behind. The rest of the car came out right on.

I use a soft cloth right before I paint. It was strange cause the top has never given me this much trouble it was slick and primer was shining when I got done.

Im not sanding the paint at all, well now I have to but its for a candy apple red. What I wanted to find out is what makes it do this? It seems craked now that the paint has cured.

Hmmm...................What brand was your Candy Red? The paints should be compatible with each other if they're going to be sprayed over each other. Something tells me your Testor's was an enamel and the candy was perhaps a synthetic lacquer?

Those are "hotter" paints and will do enamels in. I'm not sure why it didn't attack the other areas on the body---------maybe you laid the paint on a little too think on the roof, thus the crazing you're getting.

Yup! Metallics should NEVER be rubbed out and polished! Maybe a very, very slight sanding to get the dusties out (a tack rag beforehand is a must!), but one should always clearcoat over metallics then rub out and polish the clearcoat. :D

Havent sprayed the candy yet, both paints are the same(same brand too). I went from primer to gold and the paint started to crack and look like it skid on its top. The first time I painted this it done fine. Had to redo it because of some body work that I messed up on.
