Scott Colmer Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 I was ready to get back to work on a long running vette project when I got involved with another build off. As usual, box stock in 1 month turned to "This would be cool to make." and I wound up in the DNF category of the build-off. No problem. Been there before. I kept working on it. But then we decided to move. With so many houses in short sale, the fact was that we had to go to an apartment because the average short sale took 6 months to go through. I had to pack up the work bench and wait for better days. This is as far a I got. It's basically a Piranha chassis upgraded with hand made aluminum parts. There are still a few bolt heads, seat belts, and a throttle pedal to add. The engine is pretty close too. Scott Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
RodneyBad Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 WOW!! that looks like one heck of a Go-Cart chassis.. I've never seen that kit before. you got some really great scratch building work there.
John E. Bowers Jr. Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 (edited) I do feel you pain, man. We moved everything that we have acquired over the years from one house to another over eighteen months ago. Took me three months to get my new model room together and sit down to build. Still doesn't feel right. There is so much yet to do... This weekend we will be doing some basic landscaping, installing the surround sound sound system and toss in some quality family time. I can't find time to build yet. Keep going, it works for me. Edited May 28, 2010 by John E. Bowers Jr.
Raul_Perez Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 That's looking pretty good, Scott!! What's going on with the salt flat Vette? Later,
Scott Colmer Posted May 29, 2010 Author Posted May 29, 2010 (edited) Hey Raul, As for the Land Speed Vette.... This is pretty close to where it sits. I did manage to rework the spindles. You can see the difference in the second shot. Later they go some clean up. I am still looking for a good, cheap source for getting the gauge decals printed. I've got custom art, and a very generous friend gave it a try, but thye still look a little lumpy and hard to read. That is a project I can work on while I'm in the apartment. Here is the on hold state. Hosted on Fotki Here is the in progress spindle rework. I also started reworking the calipers to add the pad retainer pins. Bernard Kron Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Hey Scott, nice to see all these tubular spaces frames! I've got a Piranha in my stash and after examining it briefly I was deceived by all the molded in details - I was kind of a modeling snob and figured they should have had a separate frame from the inner panels at the front. Wrong!!! It sure looks great with "a little" well executed detailing. Actually, with a lot of beautifully crafted scratch built replacement parts!!! What are your plans regarding bodywork? Also cool to get a peak at the LSR 'Vette again. B.
Scott Colmer Posted May 29, 2010 Author Posted May 29, 2010 Actually, Bernard, you have a good eye on that issue with the Piranha frame. If I were to do this again, I would scratchbuild the front half of the tube chassis and then make the panels seperately. It took a good bit of work to get the kit panels to look right. What you see is the full second redo. This started As a box stock build. (They all do.) So I do have the kit body. It's called the Scorpion. AMT robbed the old Astro 1 kit to make it. Scott
