JTRACING Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Started work on this one! this is the Revell kit.of the greatest car of all time! I will do mine in this electric blue from dupli -color here is where I am so far, painted and cleared and I made a new roll bar form alumnium tubing.
Guest zebm1 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 That looks like tha metalflake blue plastic Cobra, or is that a re-issue? Zeb
Custom Hearse Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Nice job on the paint! The license plate is too cool! I'm looking forward to seeing more!
JTRACING Posted February 1, 2007 Author Posted February 1, 2007 That looks like tha metalflake blue plastic Cobra, or is that a re-issue? Zeb im using this kit...
MrObsessive Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Aaaaaahhhhhh!! One of my favorite '60's road racers!! Beautiful paint James!! I definitely wanna watch this one!
Guest zebm1 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 That's tha re-issue of of my kit, tha metalflake plastic was a bust, but I got one, unbuilt, still original. Zeb
Matt T. Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 That's gonna be gorgeous. Looks good already, with just paint and a rollbar!
MonoPed Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Looking good!! I've got two of em on the shelf, and two more in the pile. Monogram did a killer job on these kits!
JTRACING Posted February 1, 2007 Author Posted February 1, 2007 I made a custom dash, the gauge trim rings are made from thin wire. But I still have to add the bolt heads to the steering wheel
Guest zebm1 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 I thought enamel paint was tha best glue before super glue, especially for glueing metal to glass, Steve!
MrObsessive Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Very Nice! Love the small details for the dash!
Custom Hearse Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 I agree with bill.... You've done an excellent job on the dash details. It looks very realistic.
MrObsessive Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 James, how did you bend the aluminum tubing for the roll bar without kinks? Yours looks very good! 8) Everytime I've tried that it came out less than desirable........
JTRACING Posted February 2, 2007 Author Posted February 2, 2007 thanks guys! James, how did you bend the aluminum tubing for the roll bar without kinks? Yours looks very good! 8) Everytime I've tried that it came out less than desirable........ i put a brass wire inside the tubing, then bent it, that seemed to work pretty good lol little update now i decided on these 60's style rims, and i added brakes & calipers i found in my parts box
MrObsessive Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Ditto what Nick said! The finish looks like 1:1's! Thanks for the tip about bending the aluminum tubing........that makes sense as you don't give the tubing a chance to make a knot by making it more solid. It would also give you some "room" to attach something else without having to drill through a solid piece of aluminum. 8)
ponyryde1 Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 What about the wheels from the Revell 32 ford 3 window?
DarylH Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Beautiful work James......I never thought of Cragar SS wheels for a Cobra but they really fit that car! How was the roll bar assembled? I've made some aluminum bar assemblies but I have trouble getting a clean joint.
MonoPed Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Very nice work James!! How was the roll bar assembled? I've made some aluminum bar assemblies but I have trouble getting a clean joint. I used two sizes of tubing for this roll bar, and drilled a hole in the hoop to fit the lower bar. For two pieces of tubing that are the same size, you could drill a smaller hole for a piece of wire or plastic rod that will fit inside the tubes, and use a couple drops of CA to hold it together.

Always nice to see that one again Brian! Next project I'll have to try drilling and pinning the bars together for a better bond.....
MonoPed Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Always nice to see that one again Brian! Next project I'll have to try drilling and pinning the bars together for a better bond..... Thanx!! Don't forget to "notch" the end of the tube where it meets the next tube so there aren't any large seems. I've also found it much easier to polish a longer piece of tube before bending and forming then trying to polish it afterwards. This roll bar was made with the same size tube and a plastic "pin" holding them together, and was polished with a dremel before it was bent and mounted on the car.
JTRACING Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 How was the roll bar assembled? I've made some aluminum bar assemblies but I have trouble getting a clean joint. I notched the bar just using a file so it fit tight against the other one.
Guest zebm1 Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I dug out my metalflake cobra, does anyone know how to polish out slight plastic meld lines? Except for two small melding lines in tha doors....tha body looks good, might just polish it and put it together anyway. Zeb
