  1. Rex that is an impressive decal sheet. Website order form didn't work for international sales so I sent an email.
  2. 3.5 hours into the 24 has gotten me from here http://images18.fotki.com/v329/photos/9/65249/9185293/DSC08862-vi.jpg to here http://images114.fotki.com/v145/photos/9/65249/9185293/DSC08885-vi.jpg Exhaust had to be moved from left side to right. Cockpit side cutout had to be filled and bumps and bulges had to be removed http://images16.fotki.com/v272/photos/9/65249/9185293/DSC08875-vi.jpg http://images19.fotki.com/v677/photos/9/65249/9185293/DSC08886-vi.jpg album is here; http://public.fotki.com/DarylH/2011-24-hr-build/ AAaaacckkkkk........I probably should have put this in the on the bench forum. I'll post the rest of the build over there
  3. I would really like to do this as part of a group but I'll be flying solo again this year. The dogs will stop in for an ear scratch and my wife will be keeping me lubricated but I'll just have to maintain contact with rest of the guys on the 'net.......which is still okay I'm headed upstairs now to clear a spot on the bench and lay out some parts for an Indy Kurtis roadster build. 14 hours and 5 minutes 'til liftoff
  4. Haven't seen or heard from my cousin in over 40 years. I saw his mom, my aunt, about 10 years ago and she told me he still built model cars. It would be kinda cool to re-connect.
  5. The Cinci Scalemodelers annual show is October 31st at the Scarlet Oaks Vocational School from 9 AM to 4:30 PM Auto Models is coming in from PA with 8 vendor tables of goodies! Good door prizes, good raffle and the awarding of the 3rd Annual Hooterville Motors Real Racer Award for the best racing replica. The 2007 HMRRA went to this excellent Corvette...... The 2008 winner was this terrific Ferrari which won in multiple categories and nearly won best of show..... http://www.cincyipms.com/CSM%202009/2009%20Main%20Page.htm
  6. I found out it was Rod Maskiw of Winnipeg. Quite the piece. I remember seeing the guy across the street pop the top on his back in '59 when I was 8 years old. (Just don't ask me what I had for dinner last night!)
  7. Oh yeah......that's pretty much what I'm after. In the dimness of my memory the engine was chevy engine red. I think the air cleaner was black and I'm pretty sure that the fender wells and firewall were painted body color. I had dressed up the paint job with some stripes and I ran a set of Torque Thrust ET mags on it. That 250 six with the 2 speed auto trans was dog slow but it took me back and forth to school I remember a trip to Kalamazoo a week after I got it. The engine started running rough at the K-zoo Burger King and when I went to take the air cleaner off the whole carburetor was moving around on the manifold! I guess finger tight was good enough on the assembly line
  8. Every Camaro I see on the 'bay is a big block, small block, or Z-28 (real or fake) I need a refresher on what was under the hood of my 250 powered '71 Camaro. I took pics way back then but for some reason I never cared to show off the engine If there are no pics available I would gladly take some color suggestions
  9. Thanks Chris and Bob! I'll set up my trip when I get home from work tomorrow. It'll be the last trip this year for the Mustang before I tuck it away for the winter.
  10. I thought I could find details for the November show but I'm coming up empty. Anyone have the details handy?
  11. 1964 First Mustangs roll out and the GT40 hit the track.......looking like this.......
  12. Body headed into the dryer so I can try to get some blue on it tomorrow.... Interior black with medium blue inserts.... Engine box stock Shelby.... I'm hoping for "Toledo and Atlanta" quality
  13. I talked to Bill Lastovich at the Nats and he said he was able to get them to add some R/T parts to the Challenger kit. Also the Fairlane T-bolt kit will have a flat hood and standard grille and headlights. I didn't ask about the engine choices. The '08 Bullitt 'stang will look fine in my Bullitt collection
  14. I just got back from the IPMS Nats and put up an album of car entries. http://public.fotki.com/DarylH/the-cars-of-the-nats/ Got a chance to say hello to Norm Veber and Dave Toups. I wanted to meet Scott Bregi but didn't see him. He had an excellent '68 Firebird on the table!
  15. I have many jewels buried in the closet...... A stack of Tamiya 1/12 F1 kits, a Richard Petty Dart kit car, a Howmet Turbine LeMans racer, the HRM Cobra Daytona coupe, the AMT/Heller double kit of the Brabham and Matra cars, an Airfix 1/12 blower Bentley, and the Model King re-issues of some classic stock cars. But I had given up on this one...... My wife and I just came back from a vacation to Stratford Canada. We were walking around downtown when I found a die-cast shop worth looking at. They had a small stack of plastic kits and right on top was the Chaparral with a $14.99 price tag on it. It was a great trip!!
  16. Thanks Richard. I took my new Mustang convertible into the local dealership in this little farm town to get a spare key programmed so I went into the showroom and was stunned to see a GT 500 on display. Classic Guards blue with wide white stripes.....just gorgeous I slid in behind the wheel and I don't believe I've been that comfortable since I left mama's womb. I checked the board that night and saw Bob Downie's Jada Shelby and knew what I had to do. Correct on the McLeagle. I took a Fisher M6B kit and added the wheels and engine intake from the MPC Gurney Eagle Indy car. The Wheels were a drop in fit to the Fisher resin tires. Gurney blue paint from BSR and decals from Fred Cady finished it off.
  17. I sat in a new Shelby GT 500 and the local dealership and fell in lust. The new Jada kit looks good to me so the search was on for Shelby wheels. The closest I've found are in a Maisto diecast of a Toyota Celica tuner. Tire sidewalls were too thin for the Shelby but a Maisto '06 Mustang diecast had some beefier tires that fit the wheels so this is what I've settled on...... Stripped and repainted with Alclad polished aluminum should get me close to this........
  18. The Rislone Eagle conversion package with decals was produced by Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland. Norm Veber may still have some around. Merry Christmas guys!
  19. Wow........it's my all-time favorite Firebird! If that hood gets cast I'll do multiples Great project Jamie
  20. Good to hear Mike is back in business! Last I heard he had a "go around" with some licensing lawyers. Thanks RJ for the site address update!
  21. A real shot in the dark.....any Yoopers here know Bruce Bussiere? I last saw his mother (my aunt Rosie) back in 1998 who informed me he lives in Michigan's upper peninsula and still builds models. I have no idea if he is part of a club or if he even has a computer but it would be nice to hear from him after about 40 years!
  22. The annual IPMS Cincinnati contest is on October 20th and features the debut of the Hooterville Motors "Real Racer" Award. To be presented to the best replica of an actual racing vehicle. Those modelers who take the time to research and re-create a racer from the past should be applauded and honored for their efforts! http://www.cincyipms.com/contest.htm
  23. Resin is a liquid + catalyst compound used to mould parts. Resin parts can be worked like plastic but must be glued with epoxy or super glues. Some plastic wheels here; ......Pegasus is a popular choice.... http://www.rchobbies.org/pegasus-pg2.htm also many guys buy kits to use the wheels from them on other kits.
  24. " Fotki does not let you cut and paste the address for the thumbnail pictures even though I can do it with my full size fotki images." I use my Fotki thumbs for Avatars all the time. Just right click on the thumb to get the properties block. Then copy the url up to the end of .jpg and paste that into the avatar url space.
