Somewhere on the 'net I found a site that sells some beautiful pre-finished wood display bases that featured a waving checkered flag pattern. I thought sure that I had book-marked them but now I can't find them. I need to come up with a special award trophy for a contest and I would love to include that base in the trophy. Can anyone give me a clue where to find these bases?

"Holy Grail" Models?
DarylH replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It seems that there is really only one left for me... the 1/16 MPC NASCAR Dodge Charger.....either Petty or Baker versions. I can't really think of any other holes in my stash closet! -
Chrome wheels in Nascar...again!
DarylH replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It was a nice surprise to see the Toyotas running chrome wheels! ....although probably not traditionally chromed. I'm curious as to what process or materials were used to get that shine. also, I'm sitting here with my BGSU DAD sweat shirt on thinking Bowling Green is also an Ohio State University -
Always nice to see that one again Brian! Next project I'll have to try drilling and pinning the bars together for a better bond.....

Beautiful work James......I never thought of Cragar SS wheels for a Cobra but they really fit that car! How was the roll bar assembled? I've made some aluminum bar assemblies but I have trouble getting a clean joint.

1970 Camaro SS...update w/new pics 1/20/2007!!!
DarylH replied to Marc @ MPC Motorsports's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I'm thinking that the GM stylists really got that one right. The styling is so clean that it looks great in simple primer! My second car was a '71 Camaro and I loved everything about it except the 6 banger under the hood (well it had enough power to commute to college anyway). Gold with black stripes looks great!....and don't listen to Daniel  -
Has a date been set yet for this fall's SCIMA show?

A re-do for Daniel........

Thanks Dan! Shooting black cars is a pain and you can't shoot with daylight because there isn't any. I'm hoping the sun still rises but I can't swear to it!

Once our 2 sons went out on their own it was time to expand the hobby operation........ the booth and bench: homemade display case: references and paint rack: Kulwicki corner: and I made more space in the model room by losing 120 pounds! -
okay, I'm thinking......and it kinda hurts -nearly done with a 1/20 Shadow F1 car -I'd like to do a couple more F1s this year -there are 2 Rusty Wallace cars that I need to get done, the Genuine Draft '05 and the Kodiak 2+2 -I have a stack of AMT Indy projects I want to find time to play with .....soooo many projects!

to me this was the ultimate Camaro... Thanks for posting it Randy, that's a beauty!

a Hooterville update! I had to figure out how to fit all the Tamiya plastic engine and rear suspension bits to the large lump of resin that is the chassis. I still had to be able to test fit the large and complicated sub-assembly yet still be able to seperate the assemblies for the final paint job. I woke up at 3:30 yesterday morning and I had the idea..... I made a template of the aft bulkhead out of sheet styrene and took it to work with me. I spent an hour and half making a new bulkhead out of aluminum stock. 2 rivets sticking forward through the sheet go into holes in the resin to hold it in alignment. 1 rivet sticks through aft and into the front of the engine. 4 more smaller holes locate the trailing links for the rear suspension. So now I was able to build up the complete rear sub-assembly and mate it to the resin as often as I needed to.. All the primer pieces are resin...... still need to do the cockpit....then paint, decals and front suspension. Havin' fun in Hooterville!
