DrewCfromSC Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Hello all, well after many years of not building im getting back into it. Is there a list of items avalible online of what to start with? Im talking about paints, brushes and sizes, glue types, tools etc. I basicly have not much to start with. Have not built anything other than real cars in about 20 years now. Other than prices being more now and technoligy where do I begin? Any threads or online sources to read up on? Hoping to buy some items with a starting budget of $250 soon. Thanks for your time. Drew aka the new old builder guy in South Carolina.
crazyjim Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Welcome back, Drew. I think a member posted about tools just a couple of weeks ago so you may want to search the site. There's so much new and different stuff in the last 20 years. Get a copy of MCM.
RodneyBad Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 (edited) Welcome to modeling. Some tools I use. A dremel clothespins, tweezers, Clamps, Cutters (there, it's fixed) Paint stand X-Acto Knives, saws Super Glue, Ambroid ProWeld liquid glue for Plastics. Tamiya Paints are really good too. Low Tac (blue)masking tape Helps this helps ya on your way. Edited July 7, 2010 by Zukiholic
Marc @ MPC Motorsports Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 Probably the biggest advancement in 20 years has to be the Tamiya and Testors spray lacquers formulated especially for plastics. They spray great right from the can and dry in a short time.

I second the comments above regarding Tamiya spray paints.....they made it fun to paint again. Another huge advancement IMO is Tamiya's masking tape.
