Greg Cullinan Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 I would like to open this hood up and assume I should address the warped front end first. Which lies the problem , I have no idea how. Any help is greatly appreciated.
philo426 Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 What you have to do is score the hood crease with a #11 Blade until the hood drops out .This will take a while. To cure the wearp heat up some water in the microwave and immerse he hood for a few seconds them straighten it out.If that doesn't work then get a hood from a Monogram '59 caddy to use as a replacement.
charlie8575 Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 You might actually want to try straightening things out PRIOR to cutting them up. That way, everything will match up properly and you won't have to engage in a lot of guesswork to get it all right. Neat project. What do you have in mind? Charlie Larkin
David G. Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 The warpage seems to be symmetrical. Have you considered using it as a custom feature? Maybe kit-bashing a grille with a set of those slanted Chrysler Imperial headlights?
Greg Cullinan Posted July 8, 2010 Author Posted July 8, 2010 (edited) Thanks fellas, the hot water did it.I soaked it for a few minutes then rubberbanded and clamped it for a few more and it is back to a reasonable shape. Phil,I do have that kit, thanks for the heads up. David,it is like a perfect curl! I like the idea too. Charlie,I have a 59 Impala kit that I gave the body away,so I will use the undercarriage and motor and try to make a more complete model out of this.(its a friction promo now) Edited July 8, 2010 by ponyxpress
